I'm in the market for a new car (must be new), so I've been around to a lot of the dealerships and looked at cars.

My price range is $25 000 to $35 000, with a big preference to hit the bottom end of that range. I better get a rub and tug with my $35 000 car is what I'm trying to say.

So far my list from best to least is:

1) Civic Sedan LX
It's a nice feeling car when I drove it. Had a little more drive than I expected. The only thing that bothers me is the cloth centre console because I know it's gonna get filthy. ~$24 000.

2) Acura CSX Premium
A lot like the Civic, except a slightly more powerful engine. Same con as the Civic. ~$28 000

3) Dodge Charger SXT
Surprising to have it near the top of my list, but I actually had a good time driving it. It was a comfortable drive. Problem is, it's a kind of car that I would look awkward driving in. ~$29 000

3) Mazda 3 and Mazda 6
Going to test drive it tomorrow, but from sitting in the car at the showroom and looking on the internet, it looks like it would be a car that fits me.

4) Nissan Altima V6
Haven't test driven this either yet.

5) Toyota Camry
I really liked driving it, but not enough for the price tag. ~$35 000

6) Ford Escape
I liked the vehicle when I rented one while I was in LA, but the saleslady was stupid and was trying to push me out the door, so no.

7) Toyota Corolla
Really didn't like. It felt like it was made entirely of plastic and the engine felt gutless.

Anyways, I was just wondering if you guys own or know of anyone who owns these cars, more specifically the top 4, and just want to hear your opinions of the car.

If you're going to go for a Civic, and can top out at 35K, I'd recommend you go for the Si.

Otherwise... it's kinda boring.

Import the Camry from the States, I think the fully loaded XLE 4cyl goes for $28000cad with transferable Toyota warranty.

Have you taken a look at the golf gti? I think it looks really good and it has a really good engine to go with it. I think you can get one fully loaded for around 33g's I think. They are a great looking car.

If you dont mind a hatch/wagon..you could also wait until the Mazdaspeed 3 comes out. I think its this fall I believe and its going to have a 2.3l turbocharged engine putting out about 250hp! Only comes in that sport wagon from what Ive read.

Those are the cars I would suggest in that price range. I lean more towards the gti since I think its sportier. But if you need 4 doors..go for the Mazdaspeed 3!

I asked about the Civic SI and the GTI. Both have massive waiting lists. Plus the guy I talked to at Southcenter Fine Cars was a dick.

Here we go again. Mazda 3 fully loaded $26,500 out the door and it has everything! Leather, sunroof, heated seats, powered doors, windows, 17inch wheels, ABS, etc.

Mazda3 FTW

Or if you are willing to spend $2k more at the higher end, get a WRX. OMG, what an amazing car. I'll take you for a spin, it's hard to describe, just kicks a lot of ass.

civic = si or bust... csx is a little closer to the si, but not as much power, and i dont believe it has the lsd as well... mazda 3 is a preference of mine as well... but out of all those cars... i'd hit up a mazda 6

what about a 300 ?! 300c's are 31798 right now! but thats base and no taxes haha.. i dunno i really like the altima for practicality ! thats me though

The Altima is all new for 07, i would definalty reccomend taking it out for a rip. If your interested a good friend of mine is a sales guy at Fishcreek Nissan, let me know i could forward you to him.

Ive heard nothing but good things about the Mazda 3, i have never driven it but i have driven the 06 focus. I am assuming they are the same. the only thing i liked about the Foucs was the gearbox, what a sweet shifting car! Other than that its pretty bland and typical ford crap.

The Mazda 3 is an awesome car. You get a lot for the amount you pay. I havent driven the Focus but I have driven my brothers Mazda 3 GT and its a pretty good car to drive. Its got a decent amount of pep and felt quite comfortable too

Why not go with something used, you can pick up graet cars 2-3 years old with oen warranty remaining and get a lot more car for the dollar. Eg. although he ripped me off JVR bought my 350z for something within your range.

1) Civic Sedan LX
Nothing wrong with this. But it is bland and everyone has one.

2) Acura CSX Premium
Why pay $4 more to join the blandville?

3) Dodge Charger SXT
Not a bad choice solid car if you can get by the nameplate.

3) Mazda 3 and Mazda 6
3 is good, but engine isn't as refine as Honda, and you definitely can't seat 5 even if you try. 6 is not bad but 2.3L is too small to pull all that weight.

4) Nissan Altima V6
I would assume dealer will do anything to get the 06 stock out the door with completely new 07 coming. You may get some bang for the $$$ here. Other than the interior, it's a fine car.

5) Toyota Camry
Also liked it but not enough for me to drive around in a Toyota.

I would pick the 3 out of this bunch, with a Civic LX close 2nd.

With more power/fun, I would look at Civic Si Sedan and Altima V6.

Oh ya i just remembered the focus, and i assume the mazda 3 aswell, get thee wrost gas mileage i have ever seen in a four banger. Ive driven a 2.5L 4cyl that wasn't as bad as that. It honest was close to my Silvia. Keep in mind one is a 2.3 n/a while the other is a 1.8 T. Just thought i share that.

My budget for a new car was 30K tops. I drove the WRX and had to have one. Nothing else compared to how fun this car was on a test drive. You can get one for 36.5K out the door if you are willing to do some research.

PM me if you want specific details.

Lots of wind noise even at 70km/h. Rented one, not a fan. Otherwise it's not bad though. Got decent power.

You can get a caps lock button. Another vote for the Mazda 3 here.

I would get the CSX or Mazda 3 hands down no question asked

I got the 05 civic sedan and its a great little car too but no power or luxury just a sedan with a great resell price

as for the Mazda I think they have a higher interest rate then any other of those your looking at but its good bang for your buck.

and csx:drool:

you mean you won't fit into anything else other than a charger. and i don't think the altima has enough power to push you around. maybe the V6, but that's over the price range.

Ouch, I used to have one and I paid 26k for mine OTR. GT, GFX, manual. I didnt' get leather but that would have only added $900. I bought mine in spring 04 when they were in much more demand, I've heard of people paying 26.5k OTR for fully loaded now.

31.5K for a mazda 3?

how much above dealer cost is that? As far as Jetta vs WRX goes, yes the jetta interior is nicer but the performance is like comparing apples to raisins...

depends what you want I guess.

I've had my 3 for a little over a year now and have been really happy with it.

If you want more info about the 3, check out the mazda 3 forums.

There's a "Prairies" section where the Calgary & Edmonton guys hang out.

$31k is crazy for Mazda 3 sport but if you get the extended warranty $1800 and automatic transmission $1100 then the price is automatically $3k more than the sedan hehe otherwise it's only about $800 more out the door $27,500.

Gavin what are you looking at now?

Next time before you go down to a dealer, call and establish some rapport with a salesguy. Let him know your needs so he is expecting you.

When I bought my 3, I got nothing but good service. :dunno: I can recommend someone if you are still interested in looking into it. A really great car, as long as you get it loaded. I bought mine for about 26K last year.

Civic Sedan LX
Common but good car with good resale.

Acura CSX Premium
Premium over the above.

Dodge Charger SXT
Blah

Mazda 3 and Mazda 6
I dont think resale is good on the M6.
Good car, quite popular. MS3 and MS6 sounds enticing.

Nissan Altima V6
Dont know anything about the 07. The SER looks good. Hate those clear tail lights.

Toyota Camry
The one I am renting is 4 cyc. Looks nice. Inside it's nothing special. Accord might be better.

My friend leased a 06 Maxima for $399, 4 years I believe.

How about Legacy? Accord? Used TSX.
