OK...we all have favorite guitar players but if you had to choose one....just one.......who would it be:

for me Jeff Beck. I don't know of another guitar player that plays the same way he does. When he played in Calgary years ago I was speechless.

Oh man... that's even harder than the fav. band thread.

Stevie Ray V, Jimi Hendrix, Clapton (cream days), Randy Rhodes, Zakk Wylde, John Mayer, Stone Gossard, Tom Morello.

Just one, i'd have to say SRV. :)

If I had to say 1, it'd be Jimi. His blues-rock playing is mind boggling, especially during his live sets. He'll improv all sorts of shit and it sounds so perfect and "right" everytime.

Slash and Jimi Page follow closely behind.

Don Felder (Eagles)
Lindsay Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac)

picking one is impossible for me so i'll add a few more to this list....

-john squier (stone roses
-brian may (queen)
-pat smear (foo fighters, germs, nirvana) (not well known but had a nack for adding EXACTLY what a song needed for a better sound)

lately i've been listening to some robert quine, a really under-rated guitarist that people have probably heard but haven't noticed. he played with lou reed, and matthew sweet among others, he couldn't read music and didn't like to follow any normal boundries, sort of a theory anti-whore (make note rage, hahaha)

here is an example...

Zacky Vengeance from Avenged Sevenfold..
