My friend has a 2001 Cadillac Catera thats giving him some trouble. The problem is that it randomly shuts off and doesnt start unless you let it sit for 20 mins or so.

He took it to a couple places today and they all told him to take it to GM. Is there any independent repair shops that have enough ability to diagnose the problem and fix it without the raping of the dealership?

Catera's are a nightmare from what i've heard I was going to buy one before I read reviews.

Since they are a european based car maybe check out some of the Euro shops. They might be more familiar. The cars have the 3.0L V6 Opel drivetrain in them.

Those are all dealerships and 1) they are asking an arm and a leg and 2) they cant fit him in for a min of 1 week and he wants to get it done today if possible.

BMW can probably pull the codes and tell you exactly what's wrong. It'll probably cost you a couple hours of diagnosis @ 100/hr. The dealership is expensive but they have the best tools and can locate a problem in 1/4 of the time that an independent shop takes.

take your own advice, stop being so cheap, jewbacca ;)
