Anyone mind telling me if these places can do it on the spot or do you have to order the pekin duck in advance (like few hours before you go) because I know some places have to.

ginger beef is on the spot, so is food in east in marlborough. if you want really good duck go to eastern fortune on 16th and edmonton trail. have to order the duck 1 day ahead but they possibly have the best peking duck in the city

I just heard a raving review from my co-worker about Happy Hill Restaurant. It's located on Center Street / 7th Ave NE. Going to have to try it out.

My friend's aunt owns happy hill and I ate there this summer, the peking duck was okay but the wrap was pretty oily, other then that it was good.

Glad to hear gingerbeef is getting good reviews from their peking duck, although my friends dad is one of the head chefs there, i have never ate duck there >_> I did see them cut the duck, looks good. While you're getting some peking duck, go on and order some ginger beef :D

Does anywhere in Calgary have peking duck that is served on a flat bun instead of a thin wrapper?

Stolen from Wikipedia (and edited slightly)...

A traditional way of serving Peking Duck is a three course meal: first course is served with the crispy skin and steamed mu-shi flour pancakes, slivered spring onions, cucumbers and Tian Mian Jiang sauce. One places pieces of chopped duck skin on a pancake, adds a bit of hoisin sauce, cucumber, and spring onion. The mixture is rolled up and eaten.

Sunridge Ginger Beef FTW, they skin the duck right infront of you and you get two full plates of it. That's the only way of knowing they are REALLY giving you one full duck.

Nothing beats the freshness of it.

Hm... I want some now...

Just went to try out Ginger Beef tonight on the positive reviews in this thread and came out quite impressed. We chose the hot and sour soup and the handmade noodles options.

Hot and Sour Soup - Deceptively filling and quite tasty.

Duck Skin - Fresh and clean, not greasy at all even though the skin tasted like it was fried rather than baked. I'm so used to eating greasy ducks that the cleanliness took a bit of getting used to. One knock is that we would've preferred hoisin sauce, but instead they served a sweet soya sauce mixture. Cucumbers and spring onions were also fresh.

Noodles - It's in the fridge along with 3/4 of the duck skin.

Good service and clean restaurant. For the first time in a while, I came out of a chinese restaurant not smelling of chinese food.

There's also a good place in Beddington where the vehicle registry used to be that's very reasonably priced too.

The traditional way of making peking duck is actually pouring hot oil ONTO the duck until it's cooked not baking or deep frying it.

oh ya...and Ginger Beef is also the best tasting peking duck i've had in calgary too
