Collection agency I have been fighting with for a while spells my last name wrong in every correspondence with me. Does this mean I can stop fightng with them and just tell them to fuck off?

most likely not. depending who you owe to they would have all your other info too including sin.

if you don't mind me asking, what agency and for what type of bill?

It is an old phone bill but I don't want to mention the collection agency.

Do they have your SIN? If they do, your name doesn't matter.

isnt that sick?

you see all these post-apocolyptic movies where people are just numbers instead of names to the gov't... well thats exactally what we are ;)

even if they have your sin, its highly illegal to use it like that. having a sin # isnt a free pass to ruin a credit rating.

i worked for a mobile phone company which will remain anonamous and saw tons of credit checks daily. Probably thousands over my time there. your name doesnt mean shit man, sorry to say. Everyone is right, your SIN, address, place of employment yadda yadda, all shows up. There are more errors at credit bureaus than you think. Probably out of 100 credit checks that i saw, probably 30 people had either their name spelled wrong, wrong DOB, etc, but their SIN matched so we let it through. I can definitely tell you that there are a ton of fuck ups that enter people's credit information. Its actually quite proposterous that something so important gets fucked up on a regular basis.

pay it as soon as you can would be my advice. it takes some time for something like that to stop negatively affecting your credit file.

Hope that helps a bit.
