Hello everyone,

I am in the process of buying a car for myself, let me give a little over view about myself.

I am 21, use to own a '02 Boxster S [totalled ]
currently driving '05 325i

now I need to get something else as porsche (or any other convertible/high end car) isn't an option for next 5yrs.

I have to chose between '04 G35 (with 50,000 - 70,000 kms) or '07 Civic SI (brand new). Price is almost the same on both and yes price is an issue (thats why I am looking at used g35 and not a brand new one). Both coupes and both 6spd. So the question is, which one should I get? which one is a better value for money and will last me ATLEAST 5yrs (sailing smooth).

People tend to beat up g35's a lot, so what can be done to prevent getting a beat up used performance car, so I don't get screwed over. I was thinking of getting a compression test to get engine and motor tested, what else?

How is the reliability on G35 and what kind of maintainance costs should I prepare myself for (if it ends up being that)?

Any and all help will be much appreciated.

Thx :dunno:

I would get a lightly used G35 for sure. Go check out the used ones, you can generally tell how it's been treated by meeting the driver. It the owner is 75, it probably hasn't been bagged on.

Careful about the age to drive style comparison, I know a few olde dude that really run their cars hard and just as many younger guys that baby their prized possesions. One idea would be to go with an auto g35, that way you almost certainly won't be buying from some that has bee really rough on the engine.

I own a g and love it, the car is great in many ways and I can't think of one way that the civ would be Bette other than has milage and maintenance costs. My g is however still under full factory warranty so I have peace of mind from major maintenace costs. One huge factor that you should consider is resale, no doubt the g will depreciate less than the civ over 5 years.

Driven an SI, you have to keep the revs really high to get any decent power. Fairly disapointing. Plus the G35 wins in the styling department.

G35s are beautiful cars, fast and handle well. Please don't buy the civic.

My vote is for the G35 coupe, as long as you take good care of it,it will last you a long time and you can probably sell it for good money, the new civic's are pretty blah in my opinion, not worth the money that can get you a nice, used luxury car, u can find lots of well maintained G35 coupes, only thing that might be better with the civic is the financing rate if u choose to finance, since its newer, and the lower maintence fees and fuel costs, but for me thats not enough to make me take that over a G35

I couldn't even fathom the thought of driving a Civic after having a Boxster. The thought of owning a Civic would never cross my mind... G35c all the way! Its a much, much superior car...

The VQ35 has won numerous awards for that engine. While the new Civic is in its first production year for a new chassis and motor which IMO is better to stay away from first production years in order to work out the bugs.

07 civic = second production year
