Ok, here's what i got, need to do an oil change and the head of the drain bolt is completely facked. it has no edges on it to grab onto,

have tried using a pipe wrench, vice grips, the rounded bolt socket removers,

Need help with this, have done a search on the net and have read on these types of solutions but haven't tried it, so would like to know if you've ever run into this type of problem or have tried these solutions, if not maybe the opinion of what would work.

really i think only solutions i do have is this:
-Drill into/thru the bolt and tap it , then trying to extract it out

-Weld another bolt on it and then take the bolt and drain plug out that way

-trying to saw a flat into the head and using a big flat screwdriver to take it out

I know the very last resort is to replace the oil pan but would like to not do that yet. Umm, think what happened the drain plug was replaced and tighten too much or something but that thing is in there and doesn't want to come out

one time i used an impact to it, but you have to be careful not to pound a socket in there too hard as it could dent the oil pan...umm same goes for air chisel lol. Honestly i think the vice grip is the best option. For next time don't use wrenches for oil plugs, not even the box end. The ratchet works the best assuming they are 6 point sockets.

Get a pipe wrench. They are made to grab onto round objects. As you turn them they just bite tighter and tighter.

That is, if there is room to use a good pipe wrench.

If buddy here will do it for $15-$20 then you might as well take it in to him, since it will be cheaper than a good pipe wrench.

Snap On Truck = Rip off

Best use for a Snap On truck? Waste 15 minutes without having to claim smoke or coffee break. Fucking basterds are too expensive off that thing.

A princess auto pipe wrench.... the kind that has a big screw that runs down the side to clamp the jaws down with big agressive teeth?
Or just a pair of hose pump pliers?

yep, the one you mentioned, but i think i don't have much choices to me, it's either drilling in to it and tapping it out, or possibly this new oil extractor thing, and of course the last resort a new oil pan.

Well, thanks to some assholes from instant-oilchange outlet mine got rounded too. Will never allow anybody fiddle with my cars unless it is electronics, A/C or something really mechanically complicated and/or requiring special tools.

But I digress. What I am thinking of is repairing the panes of the plug using a file (rasp-file) to saw off the plug to say 1 or 2 sizes down. (like if it was 13 mm, then it will become 12 or 11mm) and re-try it with a good socket. If that does not work - then buy a good the pipe wrench which (if you do not need it anymore) you can probably return to the shop:D But a really good pipe wrench is an absolute must for everyone practicing the DIY arts... ;)

That works quite well unless you've rounded it so much that u can just hammer on a new socket then use that to loosen it
if its to tight you can always put the socket on there then stick a jack underneath it and jack up the socket, most 2ton jacks will have enough force to break loose most bolts

GREAAAAAAAAT technique, plus it's fun letting gravity do all the work haha

If you ever studied geometry then you probably remember that you can always convert a circle back into a hexagon - all you need is a thin marker pen and a bit of patience.;)

And then since many an oilpan are made of aluminum and such you will make your day even happier by cracking it... :D

Oh, a note to the author of the original post - drilling a stuck bolt out but into an oilsump is a liability - there is a chance you will not take all the borings out and you know what it means...:D

if you have to drill it out use a left hand drill bit. then you might get lucky and it will loosen while your drilling

what do you guys think?

Yeah, just do not forget that the bit should be configured accordingly ;) ;)

Good luck! :)

Try dremeling a line through it and use a flat head screwdriver, or have someone weld an old socket to the bolt and then turn away.

I always us the Craftsman Bolt remover things... it just fits over the end of the bolt head and as you turn it cuts into it and tightens up and then the bolt loosens... Never had it not work yet....
