They probably weren't in containers; it is a RO-RO transport, so they may have have piled up on the wet salty port side, or hung from their tie down points for a month...

Even if they were in containers, the containers are intentionally not waterproof and are made to flood and sink when submerged. This is so they don't pose a hazard to shipping by floating around.

They might be a good deal, but unless they are a very good deal, I would probably pass on one.

It would be cool to pick up a totaled CX7 and pull the motor and slam it in to a mazda 3.

I bet it would be faster than the mazdaspeed.

As long as no water really hit the cars I'd think it would be a decent deal... A car being tilted on the ship could be compared to a car on display at a dealership...

Ahh...the CX-7 has the same engine as the Mazdaspeed, but less HP (244 in the CX-7 vs 263 in the MS3).

Or maybe a Mazda 3 with the CX7 engine is in fact is the Mazdaspeed 3.

Id buy a repaired cx-7.

They're being really transparent about the cars, so i bet that if they do come to any dealers near us, you'll probably be able to see exactly what was repaired and by whom.

^ True that, but there's always the chance of a shady dealer or salesperson

^ I'd say it was the shipping company thats going to get raped in the ass (unless their owned by Mazda.. THAT would suck)

I was thinking about it, but then I saw the pic of the ship, and its completely on its side... so much for that.

I doubt we would get many of those cars in Calgary. Kramer Mazda only had 4 vehicles on that ship.

The ballist must have still been compensating for the listing. I've seen that on sail boats, but never a cargo ship of that size.

Has anyone been on, or seen inside a PCC (pure car carrier)? I have, its really cool.

It looks like a low-ceiling parking garage. All the cars are secured so they don't more around. Just goes to show that with some of those cars being on their side for such a long time, whoever secured the cars did a damn good job!

This is a PCC I had a chance to see that was being loaded up (I have connections).

This one was being loaded with a couple of my client's cars destined for New Zealand. It was cool to see them loaded in the stern and being secured to the deck!

Actually... i've read that there wasnt much damage sustained to the ship and that it can be used as a cargo carrying ship again.

My guess is that insurance will cover Mazda's loss of profits, that's why it's so easy for Mazda to sell them as used vehicles even if the majority show no signs of damage.

To qualify as used units though they need a certian amount of mileage on them so employees of Mazda might see a good employee lease program on those vehicles coming to them in the near future.

is there any possible way we could find out when the cars would be there & which dealerships it'd be at and how much the discount would be cuz I'd definitely b down at buying a new mazda 3 with bumper to bumper warranty so if anything goes wrong it'd b fixed for free!!!
