Why do people assume these are fast? They are 3.5L V6s not Hemis right?

They are probably no faster than the old crown vics they just look cool.

Testing results:

http://www.allpar.com/squads/police-cars/charger-police-testing.html

I read somewhere else that the Charger comes with the proper mounting gear for police equipment (radio, computer, shotgun, etc.) whereas on the Crown Vics. it is extra, so the price works out about the same.

I wonder what kind of bumper these have, is it all plastic? If you do a PIT maneuver does the bumper rip off?

Unlike the civilian version, the police version features upgraded heavy-duty brakes, a severe-duty cooling system, police-performance Electronic Stability Program, police performance-tuned steering, and a gear shifter that is mounted on the steering column instead of in the center console.[2] In place of the center console, Dodge has equipped the police edition with a steel plate appropriate for mounting radio equipment and controllers for lights and sirens. The 340 hp 'Hemi' V8 is powerful enough to accelerate the car from 0 to 60 mph in six seconds and to a top speed of 150 mph. Word on that. I drove by a unmarked charger police car..distinctly had the hemi badge on the side there.

Even if it is a hemi it's not that fast from what I have seen at RC this summer :D

I spoke to an officer driving one. They have the V6's. No hemi charger police cars in calgary. Fleet manager thought it would be "too much power".

Would that apply on hills? I'm guessing the v6 charger has a good deal more torque.

Anyways, the cops need a car this big to setup roadblocks. I doubt you want to be behind a neon.

I give it 6 months before everyone is sick of seeing these things. It's just another cop car to me. The novelty of the charger wore off the second they started making them into police vehicles.

Looks sweet alright, right up until the lights are flashing in your rearview. :D

v6 or not, its the radio and the fact that there are many of them that you have to worry about

they have the 6s as well as the hemis (generally available)..

In tests, the hemi charger cop cars beat the shit out of the crown vics over and over again in basically every measurable performance category as I've read.. Several large US police forces have conducted testing.

As for our tax money, the police need cars and these aren't priced horribly. If the police were buying 6 series BMWs, I'd be a little more concerned about taxpayer waste (although it would be cool to see).

---------------------------
As for them being fast, like anyone who passed grade 1 can reconcile the radio is what you need to worry about if the police are after you in a chase.. They have never had overall wildy fast cars across their fleet (in large numbers) and seem to do an OK job in catching the bad guys.
