If they ship UPS ground and the declared value is more than 20 bucks..you'll be charged quite a bit for brokerage fees.

if they ship UPS express, you won't get charged anything extra.

I don't have any experience with fedex or USPS, but I've heard you pay minimal fees compared to UPS ground.

they dont say a specific shipper, but they have USPS Parcel Post, USPS Priority Mail or UPS Ground listed. and they said they choose. they have the different shipping fees as follows
$20- US
$39- Canada
so i think that there shouldnt be any extra charges. seeing as there is the $39 charge already, but will there be any duty taxes, or alberta taxes?

Usually the brokerage fees are on top of that cost. That cost listed is to ship only. Brokerage fees includes things such as customs.

You could always ask the person to send the product as a gift to skip excess fees ;)

how much do you think the brokerage fees are going to be?

Usually people don't have that much of a problem sending items marked as a gift....

UPS usually bends you over for brokerage fees. I had to pay $100+ on a parcel that I paid $200 for and weighed less than 1 lb. :(

is there always going to be a brokerage fee? or does is depend on what shipper they use?

To avoid brokerage fee...ship

either UPS EXPRESS
FEDEX
USPS

You probably have to pay GST still when you pick up your package.

I have bought a lot of items from e-bay and have been stiffed only once - for a $200 spoiler. General rule of thumb is to check out the feedback on the individual and send the money in a manner that can be tracked (no cash). I usually figure that after exchange/taxes/shipping/brokerage the cost of whatever I buy is doubled. Ie: Winning bid is $40 US it will be about $80 canadian by the time you get it.
