BMW - Service Inspection 1

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone here has experience with sending his/her BMW to the dealership for Inspection 1. How much did it cost you?

Free scheduled maintenance for first 4 years or 80,000kms. Otherwise, call BMW and find out.

It's pretty pricey. Close to $1000 if I remember correctly.

2003 and older BMWs have 3 years and 80,000km of free service maintenance. I was quoted at about $460 +GST. This is inspection 1, not 2. I just want get an idea what everyone else is paying.

What's involved in the inspections?

It depends on the model, but off the top of my head everything you'd get with an oil service - filter, oil, lube etc. Plus fuel filter, coolant, belts, brakes (including bleeding, pads etc). An Inspection 2 includes valve adjustment for the M30 engine (not sure about others) and an overall examination of suspension, body, glass. It's pretty comprehensive.

You don't need a dealer to do it. The checklists can be found in the Bentley manuals. You DO need to have it done though. Dealer cost is high, but unless you have a reliable indy mechanic or you're confident in your own ability, it's worth it. These cars can last for a million miles if they are maintained.
