View Full Version : ITLGO (SRT-4) Sets New FWD Record

Castrol Raceway, September 22nd - (Rainout)

Before the rain fell, "ITLGO" took three passes down the quarter mile in Edmonton. First run is always a waste, just to get tire pressure set. So, the only surprise about that run was that I bounced it off the rev limiter in 1st gear, shifted late, and still ran an 11.94 @ 120 mph.

Second pass, nothing special really - certainly wasn't a well put together pass by any means. But I did get the tire pressure set down a little before I ran. 11.862 @ 121.83 mph. Surprising. I knew I'd break the FWD record when I got this slip. Not even close to a stellar pass.

Third pass. Again, nothing overly special. Also wasn't a superb pass down the quarter mile. It was a pretty good pass. It wouldn't have been as good as my 11.90 pass in Calgary, but it wasn't poorly driven if you know what I mean. Ran an 11.783 @ 122.68. It was raining before I crossed the 1/4 line.

The 11.783 @ 122.68 pass sets a new record for Alberta cars running on Alberta tracks. This is currently the quickest FWD pass, snagging that from the 600whp Speedtech Civic (sorry Sam), and also the Daytona Shelby Z - both who had laid down 11.84 passes.

The Edmonton track owns Calgary. The car was not light on fuel, the night was young, and I was trying to get tire pressures set still. Bottom line, the car has a little more in it. I think it'll run an 11.6x in Edmonton next week, assuming weather co-operates. (Knock on wood) - My experience (or call it history) from the year tells me that I always run faster as the night progresses. Part of that is an ever lightening fuel load, and part of it is due to the generally decreasing density altitude as the air cools. This is why I believe an 11.6x time is a realistic goal to have for next week.

All in all, I'm very happy with the pass, despite being somewhat disappointed at the overall day at Castrol. Kudos to the Castrol staff for spending an hour trying to get the track back into a driveable state. Unfortunately it just didn't work out - but I know I appreciate their efforts, despite the lack of success. Simply too much rain fell. It's a bummer too, once you were 2km away from the track, it was dry. And it was the only rain cloud around.

The 11.84 run by the Speedtech Civic was done 2 years ago. (2004, in Edmonton). The 11.84 run by the Daytona Shelby Z was done 3 years ago. (2003, in Calgary). Those records lasted a couple years, and good for them. Unfortunately, this pass by ITLGO likely won't hold up nearly that long. It could just be a single week and that's no joke!

The Bunny didn't get an opportunity to run tonight. But from what I could see, there was enough meat on those front slicks to satisfy the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleading squad twice over. Holy crap! That's *HUGE* rubber man. Crazy. See you and everyone else on September 29th @ Castrol Raceway.

See you in Edmonton next week. Let's hope for a better evening of racing, where we all get an opportunity to tear up the quarter mile.

No. Ron's is fastest 4 cylinder. AWD Talon. But I guess this would be 2nd to that.

Not too shabby. I hope to run quicker still before the year is out.

Great runs/times Z-fan. Now that you're at the top, how long before you sell the SRT and start over with something else? ;):D

EDIT: Actually, I forgot... now you have to get that thiing over to Mission and see what the bitch'll run at sea level.

congrats on your time:banghead: . Just so you got your facts straight I did run 11.84@124 here in Calgary 2005 that was just last year. I did also run 11.84 in Edmonton 2 years ago. Your SRT is a animal good job man.

Thanks!! It's a crazy beast, the SRT-4 is king of quick.

I thought I had my facts straight, or I wouldn't have posted as such. My bad. I try to be as accurate as I possible can be with what I present on the forum. I guess you didn't send me that timeslip. :dunno:

I was unaware you had run 11.84 @ 124 in Calgary in 2005. I thought it was 11.865 @ 123.96.

Rob just finished a dohc for the daytona.....I think he might be bringing some faster numbers once he puts in the cage. He kinda seperated the right side frame rail by 1/4"....needs some re-inforcement.

good job on the srt4....is that with stock bottom end still?

Impressive indeed. Amazing the kinda power those put out on stock internals. And still capable of being a reliable daily driver. I have been hearing of some problems with the input shafts on the srt forums, any problems yet?

(im looking to buy an srt4 :))

I've had no problems with the SRT-4. Only complaint is that if it goes much faster, it'll need 6 point roll protection. ;)

Zfan how many km do you have on the SRT right now? just curious to know how it is holding up so well. I didn't think dodge had built the block to sustain those kinds of numbers, i know most blocks can take it for a short sustained period of time, it does show the SRT4 is capable though, just makes me wonder why the hell they stopped making a car that had a chance to compete against other sport compacts and actually gain them some market share.

None the less, nice pass, you'd be shooting closer to 10's near the coast!

When I was in the states this year in florida, arizona, texas and california it was not uncommon to see this things running high 10's and low 11's, however I also saw my fair share literally get destroyed at the track. None the less i'm curious how the hell your motor is holding up so good lol.

That being said, http://www.goyk.com/video.asp?path=1448 , they are mortal afterall!!!

smackdown i wouldnt worry, srt-4's are built like tanks, they can handle those speeds.

so z_fan, when do i get a ride in it? ;)

Z_Fan
09-24-2006, 11:20 AM
Stock block will handle 500hp or so they say. My car is over 100hp less than that. ;)

I think I've got about 25000km on the car now. Being at Stage 3 power for nearly 20000km. I don't drive the car hard on the street ever. The only place the car uses its available power it as the strip.

I'm getting a little old you see, so I tool around on the lowest boost setting (8 psi) while I do work related stuff and get the groceries.

awesome man  yea definatly a strong platform, i have mad respect to the srt-4's.

How much HP you putting out Z_fan? Christ i just want stage 2 (next year woot!) and hit around 250ish hp. Or i could get intense stage 5 and 275... but unfortunatly that voids my warranty, so i think im stuck with gm stage 2 haha

well the thing i love about the SRT4 quite honestly it is a domestic made car that can roast the vast majority of the honda ricers in this city in near stock form.

The trap times were nice too, how high have you had it up to just out of curiousity?

I also like how you say you go around at 8 psi in town, hmmm the roll cage doesn't give the car away that its fast at all does it :)

I ran it in Mission before the last round of upgrades. I did run faster than I had ever run in Calgary that night. But I didn't get many runs. (That place is crazy busy)

Slicks were to the cord. (I threw them out after the next use) And I never got hooked up once. Some of my worst 60 foots all year, except for one pass which I squeaked out a high 1.8 60 foot. I was just unable to get set-up right for the launch. The experience from all the passes in Calgary is good, and I know how to launch here. In Edmonton, I have less experience, so don't have ideal launches there yet. And Mission was all new, and I would probably need a whole night to sort it out. Plus, to be honest, Mission was the worst of the three tracks - they need to resurface the launch area. It was rough as hell IMO. I was surprised, as I expected it to be better than both Edmonton and Calgary. Edmonton still rules, but Calgary was better than Mission simply because it's got a decently smooth surface. I thought they just put in a new surface at Mission too. Go figure!

The rough surface in Mission was brutal on the FWD. I think it'd have been no big deal for RWD cars, or certainly not as large of a factor.

There is no roll cage in my SRT-4, and never will be. But I do drive around at 8 psi. LOL.

lol that would be cody wouldnt it? he just sold his car to buy a truck for work. nice guy and only reason he snapped it is because there was a bit of water on the track that got one of his slicks wet so he has mad traction problems.

Had he of gotten a good run in he'd be in the 13's

Good job, it's about time someone surpassed the 11.84 set years ago. That finally gives me a little drive to talk to my bro and get the Daytona back together.......... maybe next summer we'll bring you some competition.

3 years yes, that's a while...you guys should get that car going again! Seriously. That'd be great.

But the new record will likely be broken next week. Hardly seems fair.

I'm glad the block in these cars have seen 1000hp. Makes me happier, but still, I'm sure lots have blown with far less power than that...probably less than half that much. I guess you just never know when it's gonna go...*BOOM*

Ah well, the SRT-4 has been a real blast...and I don't expect it to go boom any time soon.

what is the current rwd 4 cylinder record for streetable cars? i'm just curious since i'm not even sure where it would be at. I've been working on a 72 datsun 510 for a few months now, rollcage, custom axles and differential so slicks will fit etc etc. I plan on only using either a 450-500 whp sr20 or Ka24 motor. I've seen guys with similar setups in australia sticking mid 10's in these 510s. It should be a fun car for next year if i get it all done by then.

I love the old import cars, they look like cheezy muscle cars! what is funny with that SRT though is you'd be spanking their vipers for a fraction of the cost.
