This is an email that I got from somebody. Good way to get your message across.

This is a true story; it happened in Utah and was on the news!

Here's the story. A city councilman, Mark Easton, lives in this neighborhood. He had a beautiful view of the East Mountains, until a new neighbor purchased the lot below his house and built.

Apparently, the new home was 18 inches higher than the ordinances would allow, so Mark Easton, mad about his lost view, went to the city to make sure they enforced the lower roof line ordinance. Mark and his new neighbor had some great arguments about this as you can imagine - not great feelings. The new neighbor had to drop the roof line - no doubt at great expense.

Recently, Mark Easton called the city and informed them that his new neighbor had installed some vents on the side of his home? Mark didn't like the look of these vents and asked the city to investigate. When they went to Mark's home to see the vent view, this is what they found...

(See attached pictures).

Can't blame the guy for putting those up. I'd be mad as hell if I had a politician neighbour pull rank and screw me around like that just because of a view. 18" in the big picture, isn't going to make a difference (at least when it comes to a roofline).

Don't buy beside a vacant lot, unless you're going to buy that lot too.

i would rather have an obstructed view of the mountains then to wake up to a FU every morning.. imagine the resale drop from that compared to mountains

You're a dumbass if you buy a house based on the view. There are no rules (other than building codes, bylaws and sometimes architectural controls) that stop anyone from building what ever they want in front of your view. Just like the people who buy a house next to Deerfoot and then complain about the noise...........

When I said "you're a dumbass" I wasn't directing it towards you. I meant you're as in "people are dumbasses". Sorry for the bad English.

Yeah he built too high - 18" over height according to the article - by reducing the buidling's height to appease the bylaw and neighbour, does it look like the view has changed much? Money wasted with minimal result. I imagine that's why the new neighbour was mad in the first place, because he had to spend money for nothing just because the neighbour was pissed about losing his view.

Anyway, that's not the point of the thread. The point is a politician got pwnd by a creative use of standard construction material. I'm sorry you see no humor in that.

Hey the 18" may have allowed the council member to see the full skyline and not the house sticking over top....lol.

Now I know what to do to annoying neighbours.

Ya, I left there at the beginning of the summer for a job in construction, Totem was only a job while I was in school. Sorry man, but I can make sure that traffic on Glenmore is messed up for you now. :D

Well now. I'm definately gonna have to get some of them vents and make up a middle finger thingy, glue it to the side of my car so you can see it when I drive by on Glenmore. j/k.

Cool, I've always kind of wanted to work in that type of construction. Homebuilding is starting to wear me out a bit.

Too much effort; I just buy a bucket of nails and dump them infront of neighbor's garages who piss me off....errrrr.....I mean, I don't do anything of that nature
