How many KM's???

I used to have one of these... probably my favorite of the 20+ cars I've owned! Exhaust note is amazing!

Nope... the '87 GT Coupe had a 2.3L motor (up from 2.2L in '86), rear disc brakes (all others had drums in the back), and a digital dash (replacing the analouge gauges from the older versions).

No.

'85-'87 have 2.2l eng w/ drum brakes. The only CGT w/ a 2.3l & rear disk is the '87.5 CGT. But they also had body coloured spoilers, mirrors & B pillars.

This CGT for sale is not an '87.5 CGT, just an '87.
Trust me I've had many CGT's (& still have 2x).

Here's some sites to help

1987 Audi Coupe GT specs (http://www.igdc.com/ejfluhr/audi/Specs/87coupe.html)

Coupe GT: Technical Specifications (http://audiclubna.org/chapters/potomac/tech/coupegt_tech.html)

Coupe GT (http://www.audiclubna.org/chapters/potomac/tech/coupegt.html)

Late 1987 was another special period for the Coupe GT. The Coupe's from the first half of the year (june and earlier); are considered "Early 87's" and came with the same basic configurations as the '85-86 model year. Then, in "Late 87" (july and on) Audi produced what came to be known as the "Special Build Coupe GT."

The "Special Build" came be to one of the most sought after Coupe GT's ever produced. Some of the features that made it so popular were: The increase in horsepower produced by the new High Compression 2.3 Liter 5-cylinder, rather than the standard 2.2 Liter. The 87.5 was fitted with four wheel disc brakes, red digital dash board, and all sorts of other goodies.

Below is a list of all the special features that made the 87.5 unique from the previous Coupe GT's

High Compression (10.1:1) 2.3 Liter engine, with 130 bhp. (NG Engine Code)
4 wheel disc brakes, 10.1" rotors in the front, and 9.6" rotors in the rear. Girling 54 front calipers, and VW style rear calipers.
Red digital dash board
The tirm around the windows and doors was changed from flat black to being painted the same color as the body. The mirrors and rear spoiler were also painted to match the car.
The 87.5 only came in 3 available colors: Tornado Red, Alpine White, and Black. If you happend to get a Black one, you were lucky. White 87.5's came with optional "white painted" 16-spoke ronals.
092 transmission, rather than the traditional 093. The 092 was built using larger inner CV-joint hubs, like those used on the later Audi's.
The 2.3 Liter, had it's own unique exhaust downpipe. 5 pipes to 2 larger pipes to 1 collector
Audi added an auxiliary radiator on the right hand side of the grill, for additional cooling.
2.3 Liter, came with it's own unique intake manifold with larger runners, and the cylinder head was produced using larger valves for better performance.
Power Door Locks
Cloth interior was OPTIONAL.

I have owned two of them also... you are right that only the 87.5 had the 2.3L, which mine was, but it didn't have the body coloured spoiler or the body coloured trim, but it had the digital dash and rear discs... and was indeed an 87.5.

I have read the article you posted many times (I think I have a copy printed off somewhere). I've found there is little information available on the Audi GT, and what IS out there, seem to be a bit contradictory. Every GT Coupe I've seen in person that has a digital dash, also has rear discs, which, I would assume, also has the 2.3L engine.

What I'm saying is, just because it doesn't have the body coloured bits, doesn't mean it is not an 87.5... which I think this one is.

There's only 1 absolute way to tell, if it has "E" in 5th position of VIN.

Even if someone went to all the trouble of doing all the above swaps (rear disks, digi dash, 2.3l NG motor) to make a "fake" '87.5, the VIN would give it away.

I've owned an '87.5 among my many CGT's. And yes sadly there's much mis-information out there w/ the various CGT's.
1 of my current '84 CGT's has a vary rare Euro tranny w/ 4.90 final drive. No info seems to be had on it for the North American market (it's a grey market German import).
But 1st hand info is that it'll do 100kmph in 5th w/ RPM @ 4000 instead of the traditional 2500.

Either way, the CGT lauphman listed for his friend appears very nice.
I wish him luck w/ the sale.
