View Full Version : What's currently the world's fastest road legal car ?

Can anyone please name what's generally currently regarded as
the world's fastest road legal car for normal civilian road driving
(not what the fastest professional racetrack, or Formula 1 racing car is).

I believe it's the Bugatti Veyron, but just wanted to check.

Some may name the 2005 Hennessey SRT10 Viper Venom 1000 Coupe, that does 255mph and 0-60 in 2.9 seconds, but it's not
recognised as the fastest production car ever, because its a only limited production run of 24 models.

The Veyron has never been independently tested for top speed, so it's not officially acknowledged as the fastest. For all intents and purposes, it's the fastest, though.

"In May 2005, a prototype Veyron tested at a Volkswagen track near Wolfsburg, Germany, and recorded an electronically limited top speed of 400 km/h (249 mph). In October, 2005, Car and Driver magazine's editor Csaba Csere test drove the final production version of the Veyron for the November 2005 issue. This test, at Volkswagen's Ehra-Lessien test track, reached a top speed of 253 mph (407 km/h)."

I read some where that the Koenigsegg CCR was the fastest production car. I could be wrong though.

“Unofficially” the Veyron has already reached 253mph (407km/h) on this surface, so Volkswagen is fairly confident it can do the same under official observation. Currently, the Guinness World Record holder for speed in a production vehicle is the 245mph, 806hp Koenigsegg CCR. The Veyron already has the record for most powerful production car.
