Still awaiting Canadian and US Centre Ice HD offerings... as well as HDNet's Jan-Apr 2007 schedule, so there may be more.

9 games in HD, 9 games in SD Widescreen, 2-3 games a month, gonna be a great hockey TV season!

No way man, hockey looks WAY better in 1080i! Nothing, I mean absolutely nothing, can touch HDNet's image quality when covering NHL games. It's unfortunate that their commentary isn't quite up to par, but still very enjoyable.

I'm just choked that CBC is still trying to pawn off their shitty 480i broadcasts as HD.

They don't. They only call it HD when they have their 720p or 1080i cameras installed. I *think* the only time CBC uses 720p cameras is at the Air Canada Center, probably permanent cams there. They used 1080i cams for all other arenas in Canada.

I just posted the SD Widescreen stuff cuz it does make the game better when they use normal SD cams, with better lens, and crop the top and bottom to frame it for widescreen. It's funny because quality is actually LOWER when they do this compared to 4:3 SD, but it's still better to see the blue line guys and line changes clearly during power plays, not to mention catching more too many men on the ice calls.

CBC-HD has awful broadcast quality. Maybe it's just me, but the audio is very erratic on channel 802 (Bell ExpressVu).

I love watching TSNHD, especially now that Chris Curthbert is doing commentary.

Hey u guy i'm getting HD soon.. but which company is better? Shaw, Bell or Star choice, At futureshop Star Choice HD Recevier only 180 but Shaw is 400..and the guy told me Star Choice is ways better than Shaw..Thanxx

Nissanaddict

Star Choice and shaw are the same ownership I believe. If you're a hockey fan, Bell is what you'll want to go with, as it's the only one with available NHL centre ice.

Bell for HD and Centre Ice.

If you go for Bell, sign up with a Toronto Address and get Center Ice. You'll get about double the number of flames HD games listed above ;).

That's true...centre ice gets a lot of American feeds, and if you have a Toronto address, these american feeds don't get blacked out. Americans have money + HD cameras. :D

rage2

So, if you have Bell ExpressVu and Center Ice at the Toronto address, you'll get every flames game on TV and a few more than normal in HDTV. No more Flames PPV hehe.

Flames PPV is a disgrace.:thumbsdow How long is it going to take for Sportsnet to spring for some HD cameras? Is the equipment that expensive?

rage2

It's not just HD cameras. Sportsnet is a regional network (Pacific, West, Ontario and East). So they would have to upgrade each network to HD. Well, Ontario is kinda upgraded, as SportsnetHD is basically a HD mirror of Sportsnet Ontario. After that, they have to get distribution. No probs for Rogers, but finding bandwidth for 3 HD channels on Shaw, Bell and Starchoice will be tough.

So assuming that the above is done, they would have to upgrade all their trucks and production gear to HD. Not just cameras, but recorders, mixers, encoders, everything has to be upgraded at a huge cost.

To upgrade everyone, there'd be no additional profits in it for Sportsnet, so there's no rush to do it. So as long as sportsnet buys most of the rights to canadian hockey, there will be no abundance of HD flames games.

If local guys step up, switch to HD, and purchase flames broadcast rights, that might change.

Well now that we have to pay for Sportsnet HD, they should have more money to put towards it.

Ha Ha. So in other words we won't see HD Flames local coverage any time soon. Local networks are even cheaper than the Sportsnet. I know a freelancer that does Stamps TV, has worked locally for Global. He worked four years at Fox Dallas and told me that Canadian broadcasters are ten years behind US broadcasters and are extremely frugal in comparison.

Yea, they get like 5 cents a subscriber, I'm sure that'll do it .

If they step up and upgrade the SD production trucks and crew to HD, then we'll see a lot of flames games in HD thru center ice with a Toronto address. That's probably your best bet ;).

Yeah that's probably about all they get hahaI can't wait till most everything is HD, i'm getting used to it.

99.99999% sure it won't be in HD. Most likely, we won't even get widescreen on this one. It's on CBC at 5pm the same timeslot as the Pittsburg @ Toronto game, which means Toronto game will be on national channel in HD, and we'll be on the local CBC channel in SD since there's no CBCW HD.

Yep. The only HD games left on CBC are the last 2 I believe. Why the last 2? Clearly, they know that the Leafs won't be in the playoff picture by then anymore, so they figure, why waste the HD on them.
