How do you increase search engine rankings? I've manually submitted to all the major players but nothing comes up still. Am I missing some trick or doing something wrong?

the search engines have bots that crawl through your site, check to see if they've even visited your site yet.

u have to use special words and terms
i read an article about ebaumsworld and the owner started writing ads. (i think that's the correct article, seems like he's a douchebag as well) he had to fit it in 25 characters, and it had to come out on top of the search engines. he said something about using the correct terms, perhaps search for it.
