Stock tire size for 06 WRX is 215/45/17. Is it OK to run 225/45/17 tire for winter? More selection of winter tires in the 225 size. I'll be using my stock 17X7 wheels. Also just noticed that the STi comes stock with 225's.

Thanks! :D

I would say if the wheel is has a width of 7inches or more, it would be safe to run 225's.
you could probably even get away with running 225's on 6.5inch wide wheels, but that would be pushing it and would require some effort to squeeze the tires on the wheels (if you are doing the install yourself) . . .
Also I have seen 225's mounted on 16x6 DSM wheels, so. . .

PS- Google tells me your stock wheels are 17x7 so, I would say, yes, you are safe to mount 225/45/17 's !

I would personally run with a 205/50r17. The OD is within 3 percent of original, is slightly narrower so you have a bit better snow traction, and is less expensive than a 225/45r17 in the same types of tires... Much better IMHO...

How would the 205/50/17 affect my straightline, cornering or handling?

Can you get me a price in that size for the Kumho K17's :D
