View Full Version : If you were to restore?

If you guys could restore a car (let's say at least 20yrs old) which car would you do? Would you add something to it or just take it back to it's new condition?

Personally I would go with the BMW 2002...those cars are so nice. I would make mine a 2002 turbo replica.

There was a real blue Alpina 2002 parked outside my office the other day. Not really into old cars so can't see the appeal.

I think we should change it so the car can only be a max of 20-25 years old..because realistically they are going to be ones that are affordable to buy and out money into a resto...Otherwise of course it would be a 70s muscle car...Barracuda, Demon/Dart, Camarro etc..

Out of the Early 80's cars I'd pick
GLHS

Also saw an 80's Turbo Capri the other day that looked pretty sweet

However that Datson 240Z is HOTT

I'd do mostly stock body with upgraded suspension and engine

If you'e gonna spend that kind of cash for a decent resto you want to spend it on something that at least stands a chance of holding its ground on depreciation and appreciating long term (unless your simply madly in love with the car).

There wasn't a hell of a lot manufactured in the 80's that I can think of that you could definitely put your finger on and say it's collectible or fits into that category.

For that matter throw in early mid seventies up to 80 as well.

Personal fave's just about anything made in '68 suits the bill.

68 Camaro RS/SS
68 Charger (the one with the round taillights)
68 Shelby GT500
68 Corvette L36 Ragtop w/ 427

Largest engine ever used is a V6, sporadic dealership support from Fiat on product that wasn't ever really named in the same sentence with words like reliable, virtually no established presence in the North American Market other than a now obscure movie that featured a cougar chasin' young schlep with a big nose named Dustin Hoffman (The Graduate). Not only that but the RHD models for North America aren't even genuine European imports, they are assembled in South Africa and to boot, the company hasn't even imported anything to North America since 1995.

Oyvey the shame!
