In the Calgary Herald today, theres an alarming article mentioning food saftey violations, and a lot of restuarants I've heard about on Beyond.

Some of the more well known places:
Dairy Queen
24-11625 Elbow Dr. S.W.
The Calgary Health Region ordered this southwest Dairy Queen closed for one day, Dec. 27, 2005, after an inspector found mouse droppings "everywhere."
"This food establishment is not being kept clean and in good repair," said the inspection report.
Harbour City Restaurant
302 Centre St. S.E.
Harbour City was closed for one day in September 2005 for violations that ranged from foods thawing on unfinished concrete floors to mould in the walk-in cooler.
A report from the health inspector found chicken in old laundry buckets and flies in the kitchen.
Imperial Palace
1120 Centre St. N.E.
This restaurant was closed temporarily on Jan. 6 after CHR staff found extensive grease buildup around the kitchen, a freezer in poor condition and tempura batter sitting under the sink.
Other issues noted in the inspector's report include motor oil stored above open dry goods and running shoes in the dish- washing area.
During a follow-up visit in April, an inspector saw live cockroaches.
Shawarma King
1423 Kensington Rd. N.W.
On Sept. 27, 2006, this restaurant was closed after inspectors found flies in the restaurant and a cooler fan that was dripping onto lettuce.
Reports from inspectors say a lamb spit in the restaurant was also cooler than the required 60 degrees and staff weren't cooking meat a second time after cutting it from the chicken shawarma -- a required step.
Singapore Sam's
2825 32nd Ave. N.E.
Inspectors closed this restaurant for two days in July after noting 19 problems.
"This food establishment is not being kept clean and in good repair," said the report.
CHR staff wrote in their report that garbage was attracting flies and pork and chicken was not being stored at the correct temperature to prevent food-borne illness.
All of a sudden making my own food at home is a lot more appealing.
