Hi,

i've got a failing fuel pump (i think). i took it into my local mom&pop repair place to get it replaced.

can anyone give me an estimate of how much this job will cost, including parts and labor? I'm just trying to work out my budget for the next month.

thanks:thumbsup:

Shouldn't the shop that you brought it to give you an estimate before they start working on it?

Where did they buy the part from? Call autovalue and find out what the part is worth, and add 1.5hrs of labor. Offer to take the part to them so they don't mark up the cost of the part also (unless they give it to you cheaper).

Oh, by the way...a "failing" fuel pump?

yea, i said failing cause i don't know if the pump is totally out or not.

i would start my car and it would stall like 2 minutes later, and it wouldn't start. but if i let it sit for like 2 minutes it would start again. i drove it for like 20 minutes after that, and then it stalled again, and then again same thing happened this morning on way to school so i just dropped it at the shop.

would a bad filter have the same effect? i hope the guy doesn't just say it's the fuel pump and replace it when it's really fine.....

shouldn't cost that much to do a fuel pump. no more than $150 for an oem pump

when you say $150, is that the price the dealer/autoparts place sells for, or the price the shop will charge me?

my dad has a shop back home, and he basically doubles the price of parts when he sells them to customers.
