If the car was made outside of North America, then yes, it's 6.1%.

are you 100% sure about that, cause i need to order it soon, does it have anything to do since its a sports car?

I did it in April with the NSX and I just did it now with the Galant. I'm absolutely sure.

If the car is MANUFACTURED OUTSIDE OF NORTH AMERICA you pay 6.1% Duty and 6% GST when you cross the border.

Type of vehicle does not matter, sedan, exotic, truck, whatever.

You also pay 100$ for having A/C in it.

Since yours is 12 years old, it enters the RIV program... that's another 200-ish bucks.

Then you need your federal and OOP inspections.

Then you can register it.

I'm also bringing a car from the states into Canada. A mid 90s M3. So i will need to pay 12.1% + $100 air conditioning of the purchased price? Whats an RIV program? and what are the fees?

I would read jaymez thread on importing cars from the states, I use it as my bible when i brought my e36 m3 in from Cali, and it got me through fine. It is very detailed, goes through the entire process, and answers most questions.

Also with your m3 you will need daytime running lights, which to get done at a dealer is around $400, and child safety restraint hook, which is about $20 in parts

Please tell me you didn't pay $400 for the daytime running lights.

Most mechanics will install the relay for less than $100. The dealer will tell you it costs more (like $400), but they're full of shit.

meh, I was stupid, and in love, you know how it is :banghead: I had money to burn, so i took it to the dealership, and said i wanted everything american about the car changed to the canadian version, not aftermarket crap added on, or hacked wiring, I wanted everything to look factory BMW, and spent a good penny doin it. But i learn't my lesson, that is until I fall in love again:rofl:
