Hey Guys,

My gf is thinking of getting a Mazda 3 Sport GT but she is a little worried becuase she doesent know alot about them or mazda. Neither do i, we have both been driving imports.

She is looking at a 2004 GT with the 160 hp engine. We were curious how mazda is these days?
How reliable the cars are?
Expensive to fix?
Quality of build?
Paint Quality?

If any one could answer these questions or any helpful comments that would be great. Thanks!

Should also add if any one owns one or has driven one, are they fun to drive?

wt is the your budget?
they re great vehicles, a lots of my buddies have either mazda 3 or 6
if ur budget is around 35g. Thinking of the 07 speed3 wouldn't be a bad choice. It has a turbocharged 2.3 liter puts out 263hp

I don't think any major problems have been reported except the airbag sensor recall for the 04's.

The car hasn't been out too long so everything is probably covered under warranty at the moment for most people so no one has really experienced any charges to fix the car.

Build quality is great everything is still strong in my car.

Paints a little thin, you'll get rock chips easially.

We have an 04 Mazda 3 Sport GT. No issues with reliability, no problems, just regular servicing. Taken it on 2 trips down to Seattle and back already. Haven't had to fix anything yet, so can't say much there. My 3 complaints would be
1) cheap paint. Lots of hood chips already. I should have gotten the 3m right away.
2) crappy OEM wipers. I'd replace those immediatly if the previous owner hasn't
3) harsh shift from 1st to 2nd (AT), but I hear there is a fix for that.

It's my wife's car, and we're very happy with it.

The magazines seem to love them and they seem to be a bargain for what you get. 2 of my neighbors needed cars for their kids, and both of them independantly chose Mazda 3's. You really can't go wrong with the Mazda 3 or the new civic, but I'd go for the Mazda 3 as you can get a used one for cheaper.
