View Full Version : beyond.ca Jam Session #3!

Alright, things have calmed down a bit and we're ready for another jam at my place (about time!).

Darkane wanted a Sunday Jam session, so I'll tentatively set it to Oct 22nd, 2006 unless that doesn't work for a lot of people.

This time, I've got more gear at my house. I bought a drum kit to practice on, it's missing a splash, so for drummers, that's all you'd have to bring. I'll post pics of the kit tonight.

Who's in this round? And do we want to actually practice a few songs to cover this time instead of winging it like last time?

btw, slightly off topic, if anyone wants a vintage p90 guitar...

Is this strictly a guitarists session or are you guys looking to perform some music with vocals. I play a fair bit of guitar but mostly its just rythym that I can sing to. If you have any interest in a vocalist you can send me a list of songs and their keys and i'll let you know if I can do anything with them.

core_upt
10-12-2006, 02:57 PM
I'm in for drumming as well as Darkane (if that's cool). I can bring anything drummers may need - cymbals, snares, dbl kicks, stands, throne. whatever.

rage2
10-12-2006, 03:02 PM
It's for everyone. If you play violin, bring it by... I'm sure we can use a violin solo somewhere!

Last time we lacked a bassist and a vocalist, so I (unfortunately) stepped up to sing. And I suck as shown in the videos from the jam session #2 thread lol.

The drums are quite loud so we need amps! I believe B16EM1 will have his Line 6 cab there, along with my Fender CyberTwin we should be good for 2 guitar amps that's powerful enough over the drums.

So we'll need a PA system + Mic (mine sucks) as well as a bass amp for the bassist.

I'll have the usual HD cam there for those that aren't camera shy ;).

I'll have a cab and if I do come you are welcome to jam on it.. probably just a 2x12" mesa cab unless I decide to save up a little longer and get the 4x12"

If I can make it to the jam, I have a 6 channel fender powered pa board and a couple of sm58 mics. What I don't have is any monitors to plug into it.

haha B16EM1 and I vote for Detroit Rock City!!!

I'll vote for Sweet Child o' Mine if someone wants to learn the rhythm section. I can fake the solo pretty good now!

b_t
10-13-2006, 08:16 AM
I could figure out the rhythm for that. We still have to do the immigrant song, too.

rage2
10-13-2006, 09:41 AM
Sweet child o' mine rhythm part is pretty easy... I learned this part as my first song on guitar. There's 2 versions, one's a clean arpegio version for chords1 which sounds pretty lame, and one where it's all distorted which sounds better IMO (not to mention a lot easier to play haha).

Here are the chord progressions for the most part, I didn't write up the stumming patterns but it's pretty easy to figure out. Tuning is standard tuned 1/2 step down. I just wrote this up quickly from memory, I'll verify it when I get home.

Its rather ironic because I now play a transistor amplifier (line 6) but it has been the only transistor amp that I liked enough to ditch playing Marshall's and Hiwatts. I especially liked using a Power soak with a 100 watt head

Here's a review of one model

haha that's funny, B16EM1 was saying even tho I liked the sound of tube amps (both my amps are tube amps) I use my PodXT through the clean channel all the time :D. Line6 gear does sound pretty good though!

I still stand that I hate tube amps.

The only one I liked that I played was a White Anniversary Edition JCM 800.

My cousin had one and sold it for like $1000 =(

OH and the Trooper is the best cheese metal song =)

I tried out a lot of solid state amps and none of them could get this much gain and still be tight.. they got all buzzy and didn't have this wicked pronounced crunch on every note.

If I knew how to use a compressor better maybe I could have gotten a better sound out of em, but as it stands my mesa is king :D

all i can say, the solo for sweet child o' mine is pissing me off, i have a clip i'm playing on youtube, i can see were the fingers go, i can hear where it should be played, but i'll be damned if i can play it :banghead:

saddest part, there is a TWELVE year old on youtube playing the solo, ugh.....i need to go practice more

rage2

Which part of the solo? I can fake some of the fast parts half decent (the first 2 bars when the wah is turned on, repeated later on, is where I still struggle). I don't play it right either haha.

Whats the URL for the youtube video?

ya, I have a program that slows down my solos too. But it doesn't work for that section cuz there's so much wah there. What I do is that run up has 8 beats, and on the beat I listen to the notes hit on each beat, then I fake the 3 notes around it, add wah, and it sounds pretty close. I've tried numerous times learning that tab, and it sounds nothing close.
