yah but gas is cheaper now than it used to be.
we are making like 9.00$ for minimum wage. and gas is 82 cents a litre. 91 for premium.

back than they probally made like 4$ for minimum and gas was 50 cents.

Heres an interesting link I found about 1981 gas prices

http://tinyurl.com/ylkrk7

Heres a quote:

"Prices for gasoline and oil aren't as high today as they were 25 years ago.

In 1981, gas prices averaged about $1.38 a gallon, which would equal $3.27 today. Even with the shutdown of the Prudhoe Bay lines for repair, world oil prices of about $75 a barrel still don't exceed that which was being paid in 1981. When adjusted for inflation, the $38 a barrel oil prices from 1981 would set us back more than $90 today."

When I was in High School, I worked at a gas station. We cleaned out the rather messy attic/storage area one day and found some receipts from the early 80's (81 or 82, I think). I remember that the price on them was around 36 to 38 cents per litre.

The prices werent that low in 1981, it was the era of another huge peak in oil prices. They are low compared today in numerical comparison, but when adjusted for todays dollar and inflation, gas was more money then , than it is now...
As I recall, gas was more expensive in 1981 than it was even when I got my license in 1988, I was buying it for a dirtbike I had in 1981, and just about my entire allowance went towards a 20 litre Gas can.
IIRC, my allowance was 10 bucks, and I would get the can filled for about 8.50 in a small town, so that would put it at 42.5/litre..
When I got my first truck it was 37.9 in 1988.
Back in 1980/81 ish I remember gas prices were so high for the times, people wouldnt drive when it rained, because they afraid of losing fuel mileage to hydroplaning... It was also the time you really started to see alot of imports in Rural Alberta...

Just before Iraq invaded Kuwait I remember paying 37.9 - 39.9 for regular.

In 1988 it was about $14 to fill my Chev up! Ah, the good old days. Not sure on the price in the early eighties though...

The price of gasoline went WAY up as soon as the Gulf War started...

I remember as a little kid ... seeing signs hovering in the 39-45 range in the early 80's. Ahhh the good old days of cheapo gas (not accounting for inflation)

true ..that was mid 70's when gas got close to a buck a gallon and stations went metric so they did not need another digit on their pumps and signs.
