Went to the pump just now and noticed that Esso has dropped their octane rating to 91. Bummer.

I don't think the actual gas has changed, just the ratings, I think it is just an adjustment....

Ah, same here. :( I'd heard this was happening but until I pulled the car out of storage and went to fill up I didn't realize... :banghead:

I'm thinking we should start a petition to get 94 Octane gas around here. I've heard the argument that with our altitude it doesn't "work" but anything stronger has to be better than 91 pisswater. :guns:

Like I've mentioned in tons of posts... Esso "92" was marginally better than Shell 91. Mohawk 92 is the best street fuel with the highest octane :D.

About time they changed the rating :).

About time they changed the rating :). But Mohawk doesn't give Esso Extra points:( Yeah, I noticed that too yesterday so I guess I'll be going to Mohawk now.

I thought i was trippin...guess it is true

however... the dude who gives one of the tutorials at school said theres a place in town with 95 !
I'm gonna go check it out first before i get too amped.
He said it was like 2-3 cents more per liter.
But he's not a car guy, so he could be mistaken.

Ah, but with mohawk and husky you get AMA discounts if you show them your AMA card when you pay. We just got a new Huskey here in Sandstone, only a block away from me.

The ethanol content of the Mohawk/husky gas, may be 92, however because of its alcohol content, you need to use more fuel in order to maintain the same air/fuel ratio's, it shows up leaner on a wideband 02 than would other tolulene blended fuels... Straight gas is 14.7:1, alcohol is about 7:1...Maxt

I can confirm that. We put Mohawk 92 into a turbocharged miata a few years back. The car was able to run slightly advanced timing than mine but his fuel economy was horrible. We had to bump the fuel zones way up to compensate. The guy switched back to Esso 92 since then.

I can confirm that it runs "leaner". I didn't bump up my fuel curves (on mohawk car sits in the 12.5:1 range) but I can advance my timing just a little bit more. Because it runs leaner, in open loop mode it uses a lot more fuel, thus poor economy.

But hey, it makes the most power, and it's all about the power!

:werd: Thanks for answering my about-to-be-asked question about the Mohawk ethanol gasoline too. :)

Chevron, we need a damn Chevron...

A little off topic, but gas is 49.9c/L in Toronto (thanks to the Premier of Ontario).

We have dozens of Toluene Drums at work. How much Toluene is required per tank of gas? Just curious.
