Hey guys, well i may be building a house in a few months, and if i need more money then i can get by then, i might need to sell my GTI and have something a little cheaper.

Do any of you have any susgestions on cars that would be still nice and fun to drive but cheaper? i am thinking around 12 grand max. Lets hear some ideas! Any one bought off ebay before? some good stuff on there but a little scared.

Thanks guys.

PS.

I was thinking about a 95 325 or 328 bmw curious on your thoughts on those. thanks!

Is the GTI giving you trouble? Or do you just want to get $10K out and put it toward your house?

And if you want to save $$$, why are you going back to European and not Japanese?

No the gti is great i love it. I will be sad to get rid of it. I dunno if after driving euro car if i can go back to a honda! i will miss the torque way to much! need something still fun! if worse comes to worse, i will need to get myself out of car payments.

You can pick up a N/A 3000GT or Stealth for 12 grand, 1995-1996 year. The 5-spd's are reasonably fast, the automatics are absolute dogs and like 2 sec slower than the 5-spd. It won't be built as nicely as your golf but their not bad. I had fun with mine for the 2 years I had it.

If you can get a 328 I would go for it, probably even the 325 but they will be lacking in power. Also remember your now looking at cars 10+ years old if you want something nice for 12 grand and reparing them will start to become an issue, and its not cheap to fix the bimmers.

I'd be scared of e-bay for a car purchase, but if it was from a dealer I would be less nervous. Then again, you should never buy from a dealer because GST sucks.

If you want something reliable and cheap I'd have to suggest a Jap car like some other's have. It wont have the power though, and no torque.

They are decent.
3100llbs
190hp and 206ft.llbs of torque

For $10k nothing beats a Civic. Reliable and cheap to fix.

Yes it's a Civic and it would be a lot cheaper to fix than a BMW.

Turbo MR2 would fit nicely with what you are looking for except it's not a exactly a suitable car for winter driving by any means.

With the money left over you can do a 2.4L + SRT4 turbo swap, and you'll still end up spending less than $10k.

look into honda for sure.

everything is so simple and they are really reliable

but if your still on your euro craze why not down grade to a 2.0L jetta or golf. or a tdi?

JDM Supra FTW :D

Of course I'm extremely biased, but "280"hp, 270ftlb torque, EXTREMELY smooth turbo engine, no turbo lag at all. 3350lb body, RWD (Can be winter driven with the proper driver, and good tires). Get's good gas milage (2.5L engine). Can be had for <$10k with low kms.

I rate it a 10 on the fun-o-meter :) Tire roasting fun.

The e36 parts aren't that expensive. If you got some DIY capabilities then it isnt a problem. Plus Alpine Autoworks is much less of a rip off then dealers.

Parts online + DIY/Alpine Autoworks = save alot of coin compared to Dealer.

Humm that sounds good. Im thinkin of importing from the states, i am either trying to find a 98 and up type r, or right now i have found a 1997 328is fully loaded with sport pack, leather heated seats, sunroof, harmon system, and everything with 130 km on it for 10,000 american. What do you think? just one of my choices so far.

I am just not a fan of the older vws thats all.

I use to have a civic so kinda want something differnt.

What year of supra? i was also thinking that.

too much. When I bought my E36 I was going to buy a 97 328 with lower km than that for 7900US.

Is Alpine Autowerks pretty good? My dad will need a place to take his 540i to if/when it has a problem and I know he would rather avoid the stealership if possible.

Thanks.

The JZA70 supra was manufactured from 1990-1992. 90-91 can be legally imported from Japan right now, 92 in a few months, although there are only minor changes from year to year.

Don't forget about import fees if you're bringing it up from the states, from what I've heard it'll be a easy thousand+...

What about a Lancer? you can pick up a pretty nice one for around 10k pretty easily
