Well I thought I would have time to work on this while I was in school...I was wrong.
Up for sale is a 1990 (S5) Mazda RX-7 GXL, black, 5spd, fully loaded (GXL) with approx. 150,000km's on it.
I bought this car not running at all, I had to tow it home, it was completely dead. Over the summer I got it back to running condition, but it's not quite up to par. I bought it from a ricer who had no clue about cars and some rice influence remains. When I got it running I tested compression with a normal compression tester with the way Haynes describes and it seems to have good compression on both rotors. It runs very sluggish until the rev's are brought up and the car gets shifted at high rev's. There's still a lot of power loss that I believe is either a fuel problem or a timing issue. With school and work I haven't had the time to find the final problem and hence I'm just trying to get it off my hands and possibly missing out on an easy fix.
Known problems include the sub-par running, the speedo cable broke while I was driving it one day (I have put on probably about 50km total since I've owned it so the km's aren't that much off what the odometer says), there are a couple rust spots on the rocker panels on either side, the sunroof motor is weak, the passenger headlight motor is weak (but I have a spare motor and assembly that will fix the problem and leave you with extra parts) and a piece of the center console (which has the VAS controlls) appears to have broken clips and isn't holding down properly. Also either the alternator or battery needs to be replaced (could just be battery).
AC works good, heater works good, windows work good, comes with top model viper 2-way starter/alarm which needs to be looked at as it might have been static locked or installed by unprofessionals by the previous owner, all components are there with it though and could be properly redone or taken out to put in another car.
The suspension, steering, clutch, brakes, transmission all seem to be doing great.
This is a project car and should be purchased as such, do not expect a daily driver without a little bit of wrench time.
I'm asking $1,000, my digicam isn't working properly right now, but if there's enough interest I can get some pictures up this week if I borrow a camera.
Forgot to add that a 13bt will drop into this right onto the tranny with just a new cluctch. You will of course need the TII ECU and harness (JDM ECU works too). If you choose to get a JDM or TII tranny then they have custom driveshafts so that you can keep your rear end. The whole swap should be less than $2,000 if you do your own work, probably $2,000 to $2,500 if someone else does the work.
