ahahahahAHa.

seriously J/k though.

you have options for lowering
1)full coilove setup
2)new shocks and struts with a set of coilover springs
3)new shocks and struts with perf springs

just springs, but you might have troube in the winter with clearance, and your shocks and struts will probably wear out early.

hmmm, should have went with a GTI......what are your plans for the Golf?

TalonVelocity

I didnt go with the GTi because insurance is MUCH higher (about 400/yr more!!!)

basically at first I plan to go for looks, new paint job, rims, lowered.. then Im gonna decide when Im 19 or so (going into university) if I wanna keep that car or get a newer one.. if I decide to stay with the golf, Im gonna start the performance upgrades. But as of now, I dont wanna be getting into turbos and engine swaps if I only have the car for a year or so

so for lowering, whats the best way to go??

and will I bottom out on anything thats not totally flat?? :(

As long as you don't go for some insane drop, you shouldn't have problems with bottoming. Lowering far enough for that to be a problem would have quite a few adverse effects on handling unless some other measures are taken to prevent serious changes to suspension geometry.

ok well for just an average drop, nothin too extravagant, how much will I be looking at for price?

Couple hundred bucks for lowering springs is generally about right. Go talk to the guys at Concept 1 or Tunerworks and see what they can do for you.

wow I thought it'd be more expensive, cool :)

how much will I be looking at for a new paintjob?

Good idea..make it simple, those old golfs look nice with a pimp set of wheels and lowered...go check out concept1, they have some really nice grills/front ends for the A2 Chassis Dubs.....the last thing you want to do is toss a bunch of money into an older car that your not sure if you want to keep or not....what the hell am i talking about, thats what im doing right now :banghead:

Prices can vary alot!..depends on the Qaulity of work, basically you get what you pay for! REALLY good paint jobs can be several thousand Dollars, or you can always get the cheap-o maacco special for a couple hundred! j/k..just call around for some Qoutes, or maybe someone knows a good place up in Edmonton :dunno:

Okay, here's some speculations: (In US money, do your own damn calculations)

Paint job...................$400-800
Performance Rims.....$300-1000
Suspension Drop......$200-400

I suggest making your car at least a little quick before making it look quick. Some tiny, inexpensive performance mods can be done quickly and easily, like intake and exhaust.

On that car get a cam, the euro cams are amazing due to the fact they have to put in brutal environmental friendly one in Canada but in europe they are so much more powerful!

cam is the best 400 you'll spend! then get a chip.
