looks like a jack for DJ headphones to screw onto or something

I have a thing that looks like that, but I use it with my stero. It looks like an audio jack, like if you want to plug in head phones and the audio hole is too small you put that in there and then plug the head phones into the jack. Maybe im wrong, but Im probably 90% sure thats what it is.

looks like an adapter from a big headphone plug (usually found on a receiver) to standard 2.5mm jack

wonder if it plugs into radio plug, to convert it to a smaller size.. Doubt it, as I thought those things were pretty standard....

Im hoping its something cool like that and not a standard radio jack :(

Anyways, you cannot plug anything into this piece. It's solid, heres another (bad quality) pic of the other end.

Some dealerships use those to keep track of the vehicles while they are on the lot. Employees have to use a card to swipe on the main keyboard to deactivate the security for the car they want to grap and they unlplug it from the main keyboard. Mercedes has them and so does Canyon Creek Toyota.

Hmm maybe this is what this does. Is there anything I can use it for?

Older home stereos and even some DJ equipment should have bigger audio jack plug in's like that. The pictures are a little blurry but does it look like a bigger audio jack (same shap etc?).

How does tha part that Weapon_R has work? Does it plug into anything in the vehicle or do they just put it somewhere to keep track of the car..like GPS?

no its solid at the end so its not a audio jack. it does look like the security device they latch keys onto in a dealership so that if you wanted to sign a car out you would need to remove it from the main box so that it can keep track of what cars have gone out on a road test.

Nonono. It's a coolant temp sensor. Plug it back in.

it could be used to "key" somebody's car haha exept it would be making small holes and thin lines:dunno:

Actually that’s an immobilizer. I had one in my VW few years back. I guess its wired into the ignition and somewhere you mount the female side to that. You plug it in, hold it for a second or two, and pull back out. Only then you can start the car. Mine was a real PITA as it was soo close to the steering wheel it was real hard to plug it in. You had to turn the wheel just the right amount.

Anyway that’s what it is. I actually had the pamphlet in all the service records that I got with the car. If I recall correctly it was created by a Alberta company. Mine was installed back in 92/93ish. I'll see if I can dig it up though its been a few years.

No, it's an internal dealership tracking device as mentioned earlier. I called the salesman who sold me the car :)

Yeah, it's an internal dealership tracking device. What happens is the plug is plugged into a main board that is interfaced with an inventory computer. When you want a certain model/car, the salesperson/lot attendant types an internal code into the computer. There's a drawer that opens up (sorta like a cash register) with all the keys plugged into the board, and the one that's needed is lit up through the LED on the plug. The salesperson/lot attendant then takes the key corresponding with the plug and so on.

They had the same sorta idea at a Mazda dealership I used to work for, but with a different type of system - a clear card with LEDs to be specific.
