Take the bill of sale. If it isn't insured, you need a towtruck to tow it home.

hehe, for once it wasnt me, a friend drove without insurance, got stopped by rcmp. Funny thing is, the guy stopped him for speeding but let him go, right when he was leaving, the cop had noticed the expired license plate, and yelled for him to come back. Now he has a court date, where he could get up to $2800 fine. Haha, i told him not to do it:banghead:

Well he is the registered owner. Will he need anything besides his bill of sale and money?

bill of sale is not good enough, he needs to get the car insured, and he needs to get a valid plate before they'll release the car to you.

Yikes, isn't it like $60-$70 per day, to have it impounded? I think so.
