is this a serious question?

the bimmer for sure. the suspension on the lude is 14 years old and pretty much junk. lowering doesnt equate to better handling either. the lude is also fwd and 4ws is more of a marketing gimmick than anything else. bimmer.

well they havent sent a 318 or any 3 series 4-cyl here since they stopped producing the E36...so the last year youre looking at is 99 i think...but the beauty of bmw's model structure is that all of the same series share relatively equal suspensions...and they all kick ass...ever wonder why they stopped putting 4ws on ludes?

Bmw, wins hands down in stock vs stock handling :)

The 318ti is the cheapest E36 you can buy, but it has the E30 rear suspension, iirc. However, it will still handle better than an 89 4WS Prelude.

prelude 4ws.
it was the fastest slalom car of it's time(second to mazda's MX6 4ws)

"No need to apologize about the Prelude's handling. Even the 2-wheel-steer coupe has a tenacious grip that's reflected by an above-average 0.81g skidpad reading and a remarkable 64-plus-mph slalom speed. Throw in 4-wheel steer and suddenly the Prelude goes from demure Japanese sport coupe to Cone Man the Barbarian, slicing it's way through the slalom at a sizzling, Porsche-eating 66.0mph-with ease"(Joe Rusz, Road & Track, Sports & GT Cars 1989)

so, the 4ws helped alot with the response, but the crappy michelin tires took away from it's grip. i'm not sure what the base model bmw achieves, but i'm confident that it didn't not score as highly as the prelude.
