Grabbed one of the yellow cards for Folk Automotive in the SE last time I was down at the registry office. (not gonna give actual address as I think that's against the rules as they aren't site supporters).

I just need an insurance inspection, are they one of those places who's always going to find something seriously wrong with my car? I'm NOT looking to pay someone off - I'm just looking for an honest mechanic.

Please let me know if you've got any personal experiences or heard any good/bad about Folk Automotive. Recommendations for alternate reliable shops encouraged and appreciated.

Just kinda sketchy about a $40 insurance inspection.

Is it an insurance or safty inspection? A $40 insurance inspection isn't that unreasonable or require sketchy feelings seeing as they are only about 10 or 15 point inspections. Brake and tire percentages, does the horn work, all the lights work. Stuff like that. Ins insps are very minimal. If it was a $40 safety or outta province then I'd stay away.
The few times I've talked to them (they have an account with the company i work for) they don't seem like bad.....ahem, Folks. Nothing done for me on my car by them though so no personal exp.

$40 for a generic insurance inspection isn't out of line. I haven't used Folk personally but one of my clients has said a few good things about them.

I went to school with Dean for my 3rd and 4th year apprenticeship, we didn't socialize much but he was a nice guy who worked hard. I remember one of his first locations was set up in the back of an old porno shop near blackfoot, this was nearly 10 years ago now. He's come a long way professionally, and don't kid yourself how hard that is in his trade as a small business owner. I'll have to pay him a visit soon, drop off some windsheild repair cards for his clients like beyonders get, and catch up on what's new!
