where in calgary is there a really good place (with reasonable pricing) to cut guy's hair?

I'm looking for a change in hairstyle but there just doesn't seem to be any hairstylists that can create a different looking haircut that looks good on me.

i want someone that can see a new style and cut it properly.

thanks!

In the Beddington mall, there's a family run barber shop. Ask for Tarek. Great price, great service, and the guy knows how to work scissors like few others I've seen.

If your more after a good price head to a place called Harmony. Its behind the macs that is infront of churchill highschool. Another place that is very good is Head Scapes in Marda loop.

Chinatown isn't all that bad. There's a place in Chinatown that cuts hair the best imo. Its in the City Plaza and its called TOPS. Its around $20 for a haircut which includes shampoo before and after your haircut and styling. Worth it in my opinion if you care about how well your haircut looks like.

I like it because it's not outrageously expensive and I don't feel like a homo going to the beauty salon.

I go to Esteem hair design in Chaparel.... and the same lady has been cutting my hair for 15 years atleast. She cut it in Regina when i lived there and a couple months after we moved to Calgary so did she, bumped into her and found out she was cutting hair just across the street.

bumping this thread ...

went to get a haircut from the same lady i've been going to for years to see she was closed down.

Is it possible to find a decent haircut for under $30 in Calgary? I've been reading through some of these suggestions and it seems everyone either goes really cheap or really expensive.

I remember going to Angles a while back and it was ridiculously overpriced, does your cost vary between hairdressers there because I hear different prices from different people.

i used to get my hair cut from raymond at hair city in chinatown. he does it very well and he takes courses in europe every summer (I heard). however, he takes FOREVER to get my hair cut, not to mention i'm paying parking while i'm doing this 2 hour mens cut

tried angles, tried 2 places on edmonton trail, didn't like them at all 'cause they could not replicate the haircut I had from the Espirit salon in HK (you guys should all try it, it's hair health and style 101 and you'd definitely appreciate the care and time their stylists take)

i now go to Xtreme-hair beside the new T&T supermarket in the NW. Her name's Ivy, her husband does a good job as well. $25+tips. you can tell her Franklin sent you. 403-890-9197. no one i've recommended to that place has complained to me

I went to him for a few years. He'd be great if he'd pay attention to you when your cutting your hair and not barking at his other clients....That and everytime you go he jacks the price up by 5-10 bucks by the time I stopped going it was like 50 buck hair cuts and 120 highlights... but his highlights were amazing always came out silvery blueish white

This is a convenient thread for me, I am getting my hair cut today! I usually go to the total look in Market Mall because it's never busy and I hate to wait, but the guy there is really hit or miss... i liked the last cut I got from him, but a lot of them before that were utter crap and he's not to keen on doing highlights even when he's not busy...

Depending on what you change to, I go to Kam's on 17th ave and 45th street (right by the AMA in the strip mall). If you want a $20 no-frills no foo-foo haircut, that's the place. I've been going to him and his dad for most my life.

From what I've heard they're pretty good but anybody have good experiences there? How well do they dye hair?

I never paid attention to the name and I need to give them a call to book an appointment. Thanks in advance.

Edit: It's called Shear Synergy for anyone that might be wondering. All of them are good, but people I know have had a good experience with Anita, the younger haircutter :D

Another bump from the dead,

Can you pm with contact info?

And to the guy who said he recommends Xtreme Hair in Harvest Hills, is Ivy the tomboy and the only guy there her husband? I would highly recommend AVOIDING the guy if possible, his haircuts are HORRENDOUS I have no idea how he even gets a job there. Never cuts the top evenly, just puts the scissors on top of your head and just cuts randomly and I'm not even exaggerating.
Unfortunately I've been stuck with him more times than not so I need a new place in the NW that's not too expensive!

I get a cut once a month and side trim/shave every two weeks. So it works out to around $80-100 every month, which in my opinion is worth it.

Been to the Vista Barbershop in Vista Landing on 36th street NE a couple of times. Open on Sunday, which is a big draw for me, and mens haircut is $14. Pretty decent cut too, definetly a step up from the First Choice/SuperCuts type of place.
Only drawback is that it's pretty ethnic, and I can't understand a fucking word those dudes say. No idea what heritage they are, and I guess I don't care as long as they keep doing a good job.

There is a fairly new barbershop by the country hills movie theatre. (Behind it in the plaza with the futureshop, staples, eb games). Been there twice now, pretty happy with the cuts, and a hot shave is included with the cut.
Mens cut is $21 I believe.

My girlfriend works at HedKandi and is currently needing models for her cuts. The cut is free, and if you want color, all you have to pay for is the color.

Food for thought.

Do you know if the models need to do anything like get their pictures taken afterwards? or is your gf new and just needs to show that she can cut hair?

She's been cutting hair for a few years, but Hedkandi requires all its new stylists to take a 6 month apprenticeship with them (or however she explains it... lol). She's been cutting my hair since 2008, same with most of my friends.

You don't need pics or anything. Just show up to Hedkandi when your appointment is and she'll take care of you. PM me if you're interested.
