Hey guys I'm pretty new to the wheel and tire scene and I've been seeing a lot of people asking whether going to 18" wheels would make ride quality bad and such.

I was wondering if you guys could explain some of it to me, cause I'm looking into rims for my civic and one set i want only comes in 18" and I don't wanna blow $1000 on a set of wheels and find out that something is wrong with the ride quality and such.

any input would be appreciated, thanks!

don't put 18's on a civic

it looks like garbage. personally i think the biggest you should go is a 16 if you don't have a kit. with a kit you can get away with 17's but still 18's look way to big on the car

larger wheel size = thinner tire = rougher ride.

I ran 19's on the Jetta and ride was like kathump kathump kathump. I felt every little bump and scratch in the road. I didn't mind it though at all....19's were pimp as hell. My suspension is quite stiff though as well so that may have contributed to the stiffness.

But yes, larger wheels = rougher ride.

18's on the S4 which is only 1" up from stock but I can definitely feel the difference.

i thought that at first too. I forgot to specify, mine is an 06 coupe. with the body for this year, 16's would be way too small and look ridiculous, it's been done on many 8th gens already and many people if not all have agreed that it didnt look right; it made the wheels look even smaller.

17's and 18's are ideal for the new 06 civic, not just in my opinion but i'm sure there are others that can agree and others that just dont see it.

and nismodrifter, thanks for the info. I guess it was obvious, i just forgot about the tires. But in terms of rubbing in the wheel well, will it have issues? I'm gonna have the car dropped on S-techs which is about 1.5" front and back roughly.

and since it is a thinner tire, would that mean then it would have a shorter life compared to say a 17 or 16" tire?

ya, i was assuming it was for an older civic

a friend of mine ran 17's on his 05 and it looked great

yeah, 15's and 16's look sweet on the older civics.
I wish that was the case here.

Anyways, while I'm at it... maybe you guys can help me decide on the rims... I've got a black 06 coupe and I'm planning on going black on black.

Either the Tenzo RS-5's in 17's

or

The Tenzo GT5's in 18's

and like i stated at the beginning, the ones that i wanted the most only come in 18's and higher. (GT5)

im personally not a fan of the gt5's

why not the new work emotions??? they cost about $1400 for 17's which is just a bit more than what the tenzo's will run you at

:whocares:

since when were stock rims $50 lol
maybe for your silverado, but even then $50 rims would probably make your chev look more than its worth.

besides, if you "cant see" them why would you care.

i was going for the 5 spoke, and gold/bronze is what i'm trying to stay away from. A member on another board has it on his black sedan and it looks like peanut butter lol.

i think bronze wheels look amazing on black cars. silver cars they look like trash. but still there are alot of wheels out there that look great on. if your spending money on new wheels your better off getting something nice. you can see the difference big time

I run 19's during the summer and 18's during the winter on a G35 Coupe and the 18's ride much nicer.

19's are heavier, ride much harsher, and more likely than not, will slow your car down (added weight). They do look sweet though!

I wanted 16's work emotion cr kai last year and Tunerworks was asking 1650 no tires no taxes. I doubt speedtech could even match that, their prices are always higher then everywhere else
