it might just be the initial burst dl speed.
on extreme I sometimes can pull 3 MB/s download but then it gradually decreases

The one thing you have to consider is the fact that telus is ALWAYS the same speed, no matter what for a single person. Shaw on the other hand, varies with how many users are on. Its not nearly as bad as it used to be w/ shaw, but I find in Red Deer we basically end up cable-less 1-2 a month.

Would anyone here have any idea why my connection decides to expire if I leave my computer on for a couple of days? I have to restart my computer to get my connection back, its fucking weird, and its starting to really piss me off.

I don't know what causes the timeout, but can you bring it back with a release/renew without rebooting?

start > run > "cmd"
"ipconfig /release"
"ipconfig /renew"

I will say in honesty I don't know what *exactly* the repair utility does. Someone else here probably does. I would assume a release/renew would be part of it though. If that is not working, I'd try making sure the computer is not set to allow the adapter to be powered down for power conservation. Other than that, if you use a software firewall, make sure your router IP is in a trusted zone.

How long does it take for Shaw to switch your internet speed? I was on the HS Lite wagon for the past couple of months, called Shaw on Thursday to switch it up to plain HS, picked up a new modem today, and I still got this:
