how much hp is it...260? is it the same engine as the type-s runs with, the CL and the TL that is.

No the MDX engine is a 240hp 3.5l and the TL and CL type S are 260hp 3.2L. they are totally differnet platforms.

Isn't there going to be a MDX Type-S ? Wonder what kind of numbers that will put out.

a guy i work with said he knows of this guy that swapped a CRV engine into his civic. he saw it in there and everything. sounded kinda crazy to me, cause that would definitely not be a smooth swap i would think.:dunno:

That swaps in fine cause the CRV engine is a B series engine just like the GSR/Type R engine and use the same trannies, motor mounts etc... The D series and B series are swapable because the cars that they are put in are the same chassie platform. (ie an integra = civic. Just like accord = prelude = CL = TL)

so what kinda power is the CRV running with? is that swap worth it?

think the first CRV engine were 127hp and the later one were 140hp but with lots of torque. It is a good engine for FI or vtec head swaps.

most likely it was a frankenstein engine, a crvtec, i was looking into one of those, they make gobs and gobs of torque throughout the entire powerband. some of the dyno sheets i've seen, it has more torque at it's lowest point than a b16a at it's highest point.
it's been said that a crx armed with a stock crvtec will propel it into at least 14 second territory

The engine in the MDX is huge! I just looked at ours and I don't think it'd fit. Why wouldn't you go with the 3.2TL-Type S? Its probably lighter too.

most likely cause they prolly cost like 10G to buy since there aren't older ones floatin around just yet. i could be wrong on the 10G's, but that's my guess.

This is only the second year the MDX has been out. Besides the really old ones based on the Isuzu Trooper:dunno:

I think the MDX/Odyssey/Pilot engine (J35A) would fit into is the 6th gen Accord V6. It wouldn't even fit into the 4 cylinder Accords because the engine bay size is slightly smaller. It should also fit in a CL/TL engine bay, but what's the point of this swap when you could do a type S swap?

As for the CR-V engine swap, the guy was definitely talking about the older B20s found in older CR-Vs, which were non-VTEC. Put on a VTEC head from a B16 or B18, and you basically get an engine that has low-end torque (due to the displacement) and high-end hp (from the VTEC). The newer CR-Vs use a totally new engine, the K24A, which has iVTEC and is totally backwards from the older engines. I think it is a bored out version of the K20As found in the RSXs and Civic SiRs. These K24s aren't really swappable into anything but RSXs.

And I don't think we will be seeing an MDX Type S anytime soon. The MDX is already a class leader in power. What Honda needs to work on is the RL, which is the only Acura without VTEC. I suppose they could put the J35 into the RL, but I wouldn't be surprised if an iVTEC 3.5L appeared in it, since Honda is pushing iVTEC so strongly. We might even see a 3.0L iVTEC engine in the 2003 Accord...who knows. But Honda has promised to have all their models iVTEC powered by 2005.

There's only been one generation of MDXs and it's always been based off the Odyssey.

The Honda Passport was based on the Isuzu Rodeo. There was an older Acura SUV based on the Isuzu Trooper. I mixed up the name and called it an MDX earlier, it was actually an Acura SLX.
My bad :nut:

The 2nd Gen CRV engine put out 146HP, and a whopping 130lb/ft of torque, we have one, its nothing special for power.

Way to be on the ball bud. Where the hell were you 2 years ago? This entire time I've been telling people that the CRV only had 140hp...

nothing wrong with reading old threads...just correcting your error...in case someone else wants to know a 6HP difference...haha but the real correction was when he said there was a lot of torque...130lb/ft is not exciting.

 hes just pointing out to u that its pretty annoying to everyone when some noob comes out bumping really old threads. to help everyone out, try to keep this simple rule in mind when posting:

"dont bump a thread thats more than a week old unless its for something that people will care about."

happy posting! welcome to the intarweb!
