I was just wondering about the quickest base model 4 cylinder that's out there now and is it worth putting money into it.

a better question is what kind of car will it end up in? I'm trying to understand your question better..

Engines produce power, none of them are "quick" until they get put into cars.

SRT isnt base though...he would be looking at SX2.0 if it was base?

but this question is way too broad, maybe a price range would help

No base model is worth putting money into IMO. Kinda like spending lots of money making a Civic DX go fast instead of just starting with an Si, errrrr...

Base model Porsche 944 turbo... 217bhp and 243ft-lbs tq. You'll be looking for a used one though.

Can be found for 18 grand in decent condition.

Do you want the newest car possible for that price ? You really need to get a better handle on what you are looking for.
the best 4cyl to get would be a turbo 4 cyl if you are looking for speed and modability.
But ya just narrow down your search a bit so the nice people of beyond can help you out

this one below is for sale (7500obo) TSi is not the base model, and the AWD versions are not the base TSi's either. The base talon was called the ESi, came with a 110hp 1.8L normally aspirated motor.

ESi wasn't a base model from 92 - 94.. Talon DL was the one you were thinking of that has the 1.8l. The ESi came with the normally aspirated version of the 2.0.

Anyhow, what about a base version of a new Nissan Altima? 175 hp, 2.5l 4 cyl. Same engine as the Spec V.

I don't understand this thread. Why bother spending money into a base model anyway? I'm sure there are lots of cars under 18k that are much better.
