Recalls?

Can someone tell me how recalls work? do you have to be the original owner of a vehicle?



Do you just call the dealer and tell them you want that recall done bla bla and set an appointment?

No you do not have to be the original owner of the vehicle.

Yes just call your dealer, tell them that you would like to ensure that all recalls have been performed/perform any that have not been done.

Ie: Back when we got a Pathfinder, took it to dealership, asked them to check if the recalls had performed, one or two had not, they scheduled a time to do them, bada bing bada boom. Done.

For both the VW's in our family, we got letters in the mail for each car saying such and such new recall has come out, please book a time with dealership to have the recall performed.

And don't let them charge you for crap, unless you ask them to do something other than the recall.. (and even then brasso looked over a few things for me and never charged)

Do you need to provide your Vin # to the dealer? Or just year/make/model?

your vin usually as well, because most recalls are specific to a certain batch of vins/ say unit number 10,000 thru to 25,000 were affected, so if yours is 17,000 your in there...
