Thought this was freakin hilarious so im gonna try to spread the word around here. It would be funny if he actually gets a spot. This is to show how retarded the NHL's voting system is. Basically you just have to go to this site:

http://www.nhl.com/allstarballot/index.html

And for the Western Conference write-in, select Rory Fitzpatrick. People at hfboards and CalgaryPuck are in on this. Plus you get to vote as many times as you want.

Edit: Current votes

Scott Niedermayer Anaheim 540,380
Nicklas Lidstrom Detroit 522,345
*Rory Fitzpatrick Vancouver 486,842
Chris Pronger Anaheim 389,342
Dion Phaneuf Calgary 359,071
Scott Hannan San Jose 357,619
Mattias Ohlund Vancouver 297,307
John-Michael Liles Colorado 215,450
Robyn Regehr Calgary 209,018
Sergei Zubov Dallas 202,685
Mathieu Schneider Detroit 170,675
Rob Blake Los Angeles 163,659

Iginla is defiantely not my favourite player and not the most skilled in the world but he deserves tons of credit.
I think you base your comment on no knowledge of the sport whatsoever.
You can't judge a player based only on the score sheet. Everything else makes a huge impact as well.

hes definetly an impact player... theres no doubt in that. and he is the best on the flames as well.. and sure hes an allstar too but i honestly think he gets far more attention than he deserves

Hahahhahaha...man you're dumb.

I can understand why some people underestimate him, but he plays for the MOST DEFENSIVE TEAM IN THE LEAGUE, and he's still > 1 point per game this season. Imagine how many points he'd have if he played for Buffalo? Not to mention that he lead the league in scoring for 2 years, he's a great leader, and can actually string more than two coherent words together unlike anyone on the Oilers.

It looks the Flames are going to have at least three players on the All-Star roster.

Jarome Iginla
Dion Phanuef
Mikka Kiprusoff

Nice to see some good Calgary representation!!

I heard that the top voted players for each position are the only ones that actually make the team. Then the coach gets to pick the rest of the players...he can pick whoever he wants.

Can anyone verify this??

That means that potentially no Flames could be playing in the All-Star game?

I love how Morrow and Havlat are higher than Iginla yet they're both injured and have less points than Iggy.

Actually, the top 2 wingers, top centerman, top 2 defensman and the top goalie get voted in each conferance.

The three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender from each Conference receiving the most votes will comprise the starting lineups.

I believe in previous years they had something where atleast one player from every team was in the all star game. I dont think they do that anymore tho.

Holy shit!

The Vancouver Canucks at practice today all wore "Vote for Pedro" T-shirts with the "Pedro" crossed out and "Rory" written in.

This is only going to get bigger, mark my words.

Quotes from the Team1080 interview:

Canuck quotes from the TEAM 1040:

Naslund: "Well I think it's pretty funny. Especially when you hear him [Rory] talk about it. He's just as surprised as the rest of us. But it's nice. Pretty funny.

Morrison: "Yea I think it's pretty cool. He has my full support. I mean I haven't actually physically sat down and voted, still need to do that, but I'm talking morally, He has all my support"

Luongo: "Yea I've got to get back to my room sit down and keep voting. I voted quite a few times earlier and so I got to get back on the computer now. It's cool"

Hahaha! This is great! The NHL is hurtin for attention. There's no way they'd throw away this sort of free publicity, especially considering the way this has snowballed. You can pretty much be sure to see him on the all-star team in one way or another.

buh_buh
12-09-2006, 02:29 PM
I think you have to be a top 2 vote getter for a defenceman to get in through votes. The rest I think is chosen by the league IIRC. If he still gets in despite not getting voted in, that would be a terrible move by the league IMO. This whole thing was supposed to show how stupid the voting system is, and if by letting him play despite not getting voted in would make the all star game selection even more ridiculous. But I guess in the end, even bad publicity is still publicity.

So Wayne Gretzky (aka The Great One), Don Cherry, and Kelly Hrudey are against this guy getting voted in. On HNIC Don Cherry said Rory's a jerk. After watching the whole coaches corner segment, I cant believe how hypocritical this guy is. He says he doesnt ever attend all star games since his team that had 116 pts didn't have a single all star on it.

I thought the whole point of this was to show how retarded the whole voting system is, shouldn't Cherry be for getting Fitzpatrick in, to prevent other mishaps like the one he had with his team from happening? I mean I can see that point he has that Rory's going to look out of place on the ice at the all star game, but saying everyone's laughing at him not with him is kind of out of proportion, because in this case, if he gets voted in, everyones laughing at the NHL.

The system was hilarious, and there was some pretty solid creative effort put into it... but yeah, I gotta agree with good ol Hrudey and the rest of them, he shouldn't actually be there. I hope it changes the system for next year, cuz this popularity contest stuff is BS. The system in general is just as insulting as letting somebody like Fitzpatrick playin the game as far as I'm concerned.

Anyway, I honestly believe the NHL put Fitzpatrick out of the all-star game... I can't see the others getting so many last minute votes, especially with how much the Fitzpatrick thing has snowballed in popularity.

Then maybe they should take starter away from Luongo, since I guarantee 50% of all the votes for Rory came from Canucks fans, who also voted for Luongo. Luongo should go to the game, but no way would he be starting if it wasn't for the Rory voters.

If you'd like some evidence to back that idea up, here's a graph of the per-week votes for each player. Note how Rory's votes suddenly take a huge dive - at the exact time that Rory media coverage was at its peak. That makes no sense at all.

I dunno what the bigger joke was....Fitzpatrick potentially starting (100% in faceoffs....and look at the Canucks record with Rory in the lineup, and without him in the lineup) or Mr Jonathan I'm 123rd in scoring Cheechoo. Lombardi and Huselius should be there, as should Langkow (29th!!!) not to mention Tanguay....

Nissanaddict
01-10-2007, 06:46 PM
On that note, the West All-star team should be:

Kariya-Thornton-Selanne (Iginla left out due to injury, otherwise, put Selanne on left, and Iginla on right)
Tanguay-Sakic-Havlat - Havlat's a machine, and Sakic and Tanguay together could do some cool stuff.
Daniel-Henrik-Sykora - Daniel and Henrik dangle around, to Sykora, goal! (as much as I hate the Oilers, that would be awful fun to watch, Sykora scores enough goals with just Hemsky next to him, imagine this combo)
Smyth-Langkow-Marleau - Hard workers, they can score....Ryan Smyth obviously would be in Miller/Brodeur/Lehtonen or Huet's face the whole time

Niedermayer-Lidstrom - Simple
Phaneuf-Visnovsky - Both can skate, both can score, they probably won't have trouble understanding eachother (although what I REALLY wanna see is team Canada pair Phaneuf and Bouwmeester together, as that'd be awesome!)
Hamrlik-Jovanovski - Both can pass and shoot, and Hamrlik is quick enough to skate back every time Jovo fucks up in his own end

(Pronger left out due to broken foot, and Zubov isn't having a wonderful year so far)

Goalies:
Kiprusoff - Best goalie in the league, enough said
Luongo - Unless Brodeur gets on pace for like 13-14 shutouts....oh wait!!! CRAP....ok fine, the 2nd best goalie Canada's got.
Vokoun - Better than most give him credit for

Eastern Conference (so many scorers, only 12 spots)

Ovechkin-Crosby-Hossa - top 3 scorers in the league....
Heatley-LeCavalier-St. Louis - Jagr on line 3 due to chemistry between Cav and Louis
Straka-Briere-Jagr - 2 Rangers, and Briere, a highly skilled centre
Kovalchuk-Spezza-Malkin - Can't leave out the young Russian guy, and the other 2 are obvious. Hard to choose only 12 out east though.

Defense:
Bouwmeester-Chara - Bouwmeester is likely the best skating Dman in the east, and Chara's just a machine (may not play due to alleged 'middle body injury'...no joke, check sportsnet)
Redden-Souray - Souray shouldn't start, but you can make a case for him. He's been great this year
T. Kaberle-Gonchar - Should be obvious

Goalies:
Brodeur - 7 shutouts already!!!!
Miller - Would have made Roloson (and Markannen) look like lower tier ECHLers if he had made the finals...(ie. if he had at least ONE of his top 3 dmen)
Lehtonen - This guy will get better as time goes by, and is already great. Trust me.

OK I'm done now.
