now you have to ask yourself, why would someone trade it, unless something is wrong? :banghead:

Well, my roomate works at a dealership, and someone JUST traded it in. Thats what I need to work out.

I think it is bone stock, which is ideal.

keep the vtec powa!!!

i personally wouldnt do it man. 1999 compared to 1992. the 1999 is probably more reliable especially being a honda and all lol.

Ya but all his cars are JDM and from what Ive seen his company isnt the best to deal with.

If you can take on owning an older turbo car, have a winter vehicle and if the mr2 is in good shape then Id go with the 2. Totally outclasses the civic.

11-22-2006, 09:58 PM
So it is sounding like it will be higher maintnence than the civic. Are they that bad? whats the most problematic about it?
The winter vehicle can wait! I have to go see it tomorrow. Might not be anything.

Kuks looks ok, but i really don't want a right hand drive vehicle. even more high maintnence.

Fuel economy? hah, it has more potential in every PERFORMANCE aspect. Resale, reliability, and drivability not so much.

hmm ill have to disagree. Mr2's have held there value unlike civics. stock setups are extremely reliable and considering they are almost 10 years older some minor "maintenance" will arise. And no matter what anyone says they are drivable in ANY weather.

I'll agree on feul economy tho ;)

Make the trade if you have a second car. Otherwise I wouldn't. The deuce was one of the most fun but unreliable cars I have ever owned. Not saying it will be this case for all of course.

Civics cost next to nothing to maintain. MR2's are a different story. If you have deep pockets, buy the MR2.

You can't even compare a civic to an MR2......completely different class in all aspects. civic = corolla!!!!!

Take the MR2. Drive the MR2 in summer and pick up a winter beater.....

MR2 > Civic.....ANYDAY!!!!!!!!

mr2's loose there value here in canada

MrPid

The MR2's in an entirely different league than the civic...

The MR2 was engineered as a genuine mid engined two seater sports car. The Civic...well...it was engineered as an econobox grocery getter and was given some performance perks along the way to draw in a bigger demographic and make it more appealing.

The MR2 was still a better car (for its purpose) even when the 99 civic was brand new.

I think If possible, I will do the trade.

Well, it has 180k on it. Last owner had it for 12 yrs, so i imagine he was the second owner. The car seems in pretty good shape, all things considered. Leather seats a bit worn, as well as shift boot and handle. Engine sounded smooth, no ticking of any sort. turbo sounded good, everything seemed to work just fine.
Drove well, no rattles or unexplained bumps etc. Turbo kicks in nice. think I am sold.

Here back from buddy tomorrow if things are a go.

I just need to find a back seat for it! Anyone have one kicking around?!!

The car is red, doesnt seem to have much for scratches or dings. No rust either.

I am sad to say goodbye to my VTEC, but hello turbo rwd!:drama:

Guess youve never owned an mr2, the lhd mr2s are still holding their prices strong. Clean turbos are still going for 15-20K non jdm of course. In stock form with the mileage my car has it would be worth more than what I paid for it 6 years ago.

yeah but you stole that car at the price you got. i almost paid mor for my N/a booo.

Guess i dont really need to chime in here, most of the MR2 boyz have spoken :D , but i will anyway......I wouldn't mind a 99 Civic SIR, it sounds like a pretty sweet ride you have, sure its newer and would most likely will be more reliable... but simply put, i could never trade my MR2 for one.

thanks for all the posts. I don't want to put the price down, in case some of you schisters steal it from under me!!

I will definetly miss my SIR, I always thought I would have it FOREVER!!

But the boost and tourqe of the 2 is amazing, puts you in your seat!.

I guess I will have to take out my momo steering wheel, race seat, test pipe, and will probably take my spoon rear strut brace, and mr,alex trunk bar, so these may be for sale soon!!

I have to put the stock suspension back in too! bummer, lots of work to do this weekend. If anyone wants to help, has a garage, please let me know!! I'll let you bag the ole SIR before its gone! and maybe buy beer!!

b16a2sir

Also, when i get the mister2, maybe someone that has a 2 wants to come for a ride or a drive and see what they think!

but how many more civics, are out then MR2's? does that make a difference in resale? for every MR2 i see, i see about 20 civics, is that gonna affect resale. i would think so.

and the fact the car is discontinued......ya it is gonna hold its value mine will aswell......

Sounds like you already made up your mind, but remember that after the mr2 hits 200k it's going to lose a ton of value, whereas your SIR is still worth quite a bit and will be for a very long time.

11-24-2006, 11:22 AM
how many km are on your SIR?..180 for the mr2 seems a little high to me?
but i know next to nothing about mr2's so maybe it can go way
past that i dunno lol..but get ready to deal with problems! turbo
cars in general are a headache:banghead:

b16a2sir
11-24-2006, 02:34 PM
My SIR has 85000 KM.

Maybe I am getting in too deep. I wonder if this mr2 will just be headache after headache after i get it, because it is at 180,000km,.

ALSO, the sales guy wants ME to put my car back to stock, Which pisses me off because i need money to assemble the spring/shocks, and the swaybar endlinks are a huge pain. Changing the steering wheel, seat, cat, vtec contrlr arent too bad. At least I could sell and/or reuse some stuff on the MR@.

But really, what is my civic worth?? would Anyone buy it for 13000 - 14000?? if so, let me know so i dont have to change back to stock!

So your trying to tell me that because there's less MR2's than Civics out there that's why the MR2's hold their value?

So how about Hyundai Elantras and Accents? For every Elantra I see what's the ratio to Civics? 1 for every 20 Civics as well? So because there's less Hyundai's out there your telling me they're going to hold their value better than an MR2 if not equal or at least comparable cuz it's...RARE? Are you kidding me?

You can't even compare an MR2 to a Civic pal. Completely different car.

fro 180 k on an mr2 i wouldnt do it

11-24-2006, 03:06 PM
sell the SIR..buy his mr2 if thats the one you want lol or
look for a different one..think by doing this you will have enough
money for the mr2 and maybe some extra cash left over to spend
and it will save you time taking everything off you car..
thats just my opinion i dunno i guess go with your gut feeling lol

I am starting to think you are right SR20

I just looked at auto trader, mr2's going for 8000-13000.
with less than 180,000 km's.

SIR's for about 10-15000.

hmmmmm. I am kinda compulsive, and WANT IT NOW!!!

Dude sell the SIR..who cares how long it will take because
in the end you wontwanna kick yourself in teh ass for
tradeing a new car for an old one..ive seen this happen way
to many times..lol and obviously the guy with the mr2 knows
that civic vill last him allot longer and cost him allot less on
maintenence..sell the civic..and while doing so look for
the "perfect" mr2 that u can afford lol..thers allot more then
that one car with 180thou km's..and im sure if you wait youll
find sumthing in better shape and maybe even nicer..i dunno this
way you'll have a better chance at getting the car you want and
it lasting you way longer..or even import an mr2 they probly arent
too much $$ and come with low km's!..well hopefully this saved
you from potentially loosing sum money lol gl with selling your SIR
if thats what you plan on doing.:D
