You have to turn your tv on and leave the PVR off. Then press 'menu' on the front of the pvr once and a menu comes up in black & white on your TV screen. Since you have a 1080p set, adjust the output to 1080i (16:9) and then select 480p for non-hd programming. Then go to the HDMI options (goes to a different screen) and configure the audio/video there. My HDMI connection worked automatically on both of my TV's but sometimes you have to manually make the change in the settings.

Under '4:3 override' it should say 'HDMI settings'. Highlite the line and press the '>' on the remote to get to the 'additional HDMI settings'. It's possible your unit could be in DVI mode instead of HDMI. Leave the Color Space at RGB & the Audio mode on Auto.

I find the picture quality on HD Shaw is phenomenal. I notice a huge difference between standard digital cable and HD. In a direct comparison with other HD providers, I have no idea because Shaw is the only HD I've had.

shaw is probably the worst. try watching something like las vegas, that has that fast zoom effect during scene changes. all you see is macroblocking like a crappy google video. any sports looks crappy in motion, there are small outlines around the players that look smeared half the time.

You must have a shitty connection or shitty equipment. Mine looks fantastic.

Nah, you just have shitty eyes ;)

Its common knowledge that shaw uses the lowest bitrate among the cable and satellite companies.

I don't get any of that with mine. The only HD station that I have a problem with is Sportsnet. It always looks like it's a little fuzzy/out of focus. Every other station is good for me, especially Discovery and TSN HD.

The Shaw HD Channels work awesome for me. And like someone else said, not all programming on the HD channels are actually broadcast in Hi-Def, so some shows/commercials etc may not look HD.

As for Sportsnet HD, it looks awesome for me, watched a few hockey games on it and its great. If you're having issues, it could possibly be your television, DCT, or cable signal to your home. Just give the tech's a call and they'll send someone out at no charge.

Now if only they had Playboy/Hustler HD

:D

depends what your tv is. what model is your tv? unless you have a 1080p set, you wont see a difference, because itll just downscale it to 720p regardless of what you choose.

if you have that TV, you want to set it to 1080i. the PVR will output in 1080i and your TV will de-interlace it to give you 1080p.
