Hi all,

Just thought I'd ask to see what some people thought of the following models and which one is better to get?

SD600 - currently sells for about $300, 6 mp camera, has viewfinder, 2.5" LCD and smaller than the SD630.

SD630 - currently sells for about $380, 6 mp camera, has a 3" LCD and has some finishing features that I'm not exactly sure of.

From what I have read on the two, they are basically the same camera except one has a 3" LCD and no viewfinder. From an internals, are they the same? Does someone know any more about these two cameras? Something that I may have missed when doing a comparison. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I mean if the 0.5" LCD size difference is not important, should I just get the SD600 and save myself some money?

I have the 630 and it's amazing. The 3" screen is well worth the money. I imported it before it was available in Canada and paid ~$600 so I would say that for $380 I think it's a terrific bargain.

The only difference between the two is the screen.

If you want bragging rights, then 630 is the way to go. But you loose out on the view finder.
This means, if it is sunny outside and you can't see the screen, you can turn it off on the 600 and take pictures old style.

Buttttt..... "optical" viewfinders are basically holes in the camera. They do not line up with 100% with the lens. Pictures will be shifted over.

the 630 will also use up more battery than the 600 because of the screen size

My battery life is terrific. I was in Montreal for about a week and only charged it once while there and took 350 pictures.

If you can send the extra, look at the IS models.

Yes, I hear the IS models are terrific. I think $300 is a very good price point so I may pick up a SD600 until the IS drops down to around there.

Only thing I could probably complain about having a viewfinder is if you use it a lot, you get a bunch of nose prints on your LCD :)

SD600 is better. Here's why:

The 630 may have a bigger screen, BUT the screen is the same resolution as the 600 meaning the 630 will not appear to have the same clarity as the 600.

The 600 is made entirely of alloy whereas most of the back half of the 630 is made of cheap plastic. Plastic is not a material that belongs on a Canon Elph in my opinion.

The 600 is also a touch smaller.

Other than that they have the same specs. so it's really personal preference.

if you think about it, how often do you use the view finder?

i've got the sd200 and am gonna upgrade to the sd700is b/c of the Image Stabilizer, but i was considering getting the 630 b/c i don't/very rarely use my view finder. Both are nice cams but NATAS.KAUPAS is right, the 600 would be better b/c of the body being made of alloy and not plastic

I was going to ask the same question, anyone have any feedback on the Sony DSC-W50 or DSCT9?

I was told back in the day that if you're only taking 4x6 pictures. a 3.2mp is all you'll need and anything higher would be useless. You only need higher mp if you're going to take bigger pictures. Any truth to this?

and also wondering how the Sony DSC-W30 and DSC-W50 compare to the Canon SD600 and SD630?
For the sony's, do i have to buy specifically the sony memory sticks?

Don't buy sony unless you want to get ripped off on memory. Canon uses sd cards, so you can sometimes even get a gig on sale for 20$.

The other difference that no one mentioned is that the SD630 has a touch sensitive scroll wheel on it. Makes it a little bit easier to scroll through your pics if you're lazy.

The SD900 is a nice camera with high megapixels, but too bad it didn't have IS. Also, I think that the titanium body feels really cheap.

I have the 2.5" screen SD400 and love it.

I didnt want to get the 3.0" screen because they relocate the buttons to a spot I didnt like (that was my model year anyways)
