I had a couple of turtles when i was a kid, and if i recall correctly all u need is food, a tank, and a warm place (or one of those UV lights). Turtles are cool as hell, but be warned many of them smell pretty funky lol.

its illegal for pet stores to sell them in alberta, yes ... every other province is ok..... it is perfectly LEGIT for private trade.

yeah there pretty easy to keep..... i have a 9 year old one that lives in an aquarium with no heater and no light, just a filter.
and rocks so it can climb up. and i feed it fish food. curently using those big japanese Koi food

Please do a search for turtles in the same for sale column. YES they are nice pets but they are VERY VERY DIRTY animals. Aquariums need to be cleaned at least once a month, maybe more often. Filters are expensive and clog all the time. Their poop stinks, and eventually your house will smell like it. Etc etc etc... Do a search and please be informed before making this decision.

i have to disagree, not only cause im trying to sell them, but ive had my turtle for 9 years... it only stinks cause of the type of food your feeding it, and over feeding ... my aquarium is a tiny 5 gallon tank, with small filter, i only clean it like twice a year and only clean the filter about every 3-4 months. every filter needs cleaning. for me its the same maintanace as a fish tank of chilids

again its the brand of food your giving ... maybe its "turtle" food... must be high in fiber... i food mine fish food.... also fed it dried brine shrimp with no stink. and over feeding is also a major factor to stink.

BTW your enclosure is just too small for your turtle. There's no room for it to exercise. It also lacks a UV lamp and basking lamp. That lid looks very air tight too. :thumbsdow


the lid is not air tight... there is a gap in the back for the filter.
tank has no lamp or heater... as long as you tank is not in a cold place.... eg. basement or in front of a window.


i dont recommend a stagnate fishbowl type of aquarium for these little guys cause they do poop. ive had my turtle only in filtered tanks and have had no problems with odors. it just like keeping fish and you can take them out to play, also watching it catch feeder fish is cool too.

not gonna lie, turtles do stink i had a dry land style turtle way back and it was a stinker but you just need to clean the tank periodically, feed it propper vegitation,and dont over feed... kinda like a rabbit. They are cool pets so props to all who got one and good luck!

I'm not sure why it died, i think it was sick and we just didnt know what to do. It stopped eating for a bit before it died. it would like to lay with its stomach facing up, like on it's shell..weird haha

Could have died to upset in habitat, such as it could have been growing and needed more room,
my friend had a couple chameleons that did this
also one of my gecko's would drop its tail all the time then I
gave her a bigger tank and she is really kick ass lol. change the
tank around a bit, they like that a lot, seems to them
its a different place, to them although its the same old place, haha,
also keep your hands clean if you plan on handling.
