Check your air filter, spark plugs, and maybe use some fuel injector cleaner. might help a bit.

My 06 xterra with a 6 speed 265 hp 6cyl engine, gets 400-450 kms in the city on one tank of gas. Approx value = 60 bucks. 80 litre tank. Much more on the highway of course.

When its as cold as it has been you waste more gas warming up the vehicle as well as all the spinning out.

You are not that far off if you havea 6Cyl as well.

Do a minor common tune up. It should get better.

I don't know why people keep using "how many KM you get on one tank". Gas tank sizes are DIFFERENT... and in order to be a little more accurate... try using how many L per 100KM.

My tank is 87L... which is almost twice as big as your civics...

That has to be the best case scenario. I'd say you average closer to 600km's in town.

But thanks for the post, very informative.

Sounds about right on! SUV's are pigs, even the old 4 banger toyota 4 runners.

Would you? I didnt know you drive my car, but now I know. How much washer fluid would you say I go through average in a week?

You tool, go sit in the corner. My car is rated for 5.7L/100 kms Hwy, which is what I drive mostly (well at least i think  ), its a 50L tank, as well as I drive the speed limit and drive lightly.

Next time you criticize my simple cheeky response to rav4guy and tell ME how I drive and what mileage I get, think of how unintelligent and wasteful your last post turned out to be.

Unfortunatly I used to be in the same boat getting that kind of mileage. It was hurting me financially so I had to let my other vehicle go (I wish I couldve afforded to keep it). Hopefully a simple tune up or maybe even a few cheap upgrades would maybe score you a few more kms per L.

wow man chill. This thread is about helping someone who has a 98 pathfinder not a compact car. I could say my civic does pretty good too but that is pointless.

we need to know from the OP how big the tank is and if it's a 2WD a 4WD and if he has the capacity of switching between both.

we also need to know if consumption has been worse in this cold weather or if it has been going down a lot no matter what weather we have. Then we will be able to help.

if we don't get back on track this poor man's thread will get locked...

I have a few friends that owned that generation pathfinder and they all complained about what a gas hog it was. 16 MPG is probably pretty reasonable, which would be approximately 400 km on a 60l tank.

Seeing as all these tools above me are not being informative and spitting crap, I've come to help you and I'm speakin from experience of actually owning a Pathfinder, not a Civic, yada yada etc...

Thats about right....my 02 Pathy, I fill up $60 on premium, get about 350-400KM til I need to fill up again so 400KM is about right...what do you expect? Its a Nissan SUV and its the 3.3L, in fact my Pathfinder guzzles more gas than my old turbo 240sx KA24DE-T , and as Gorilla said, put it in 2WD mode if you have that option, it'll save a lil bit of gas

HAHAHA Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. I got 150ish km in half a tank since it became really cold out.

I have the 3.5L V6 (VQ35DE). But I don't really drive that much and try to walk to university when I do. So when I do drive I don't like to drive too lightly if I haven't drive much recently.

On a really good journey of driving lightly, and having ideal conditions, sometimes I can hit 500km on a tank, but thats when I am getting really low and it costs more than 60$ to fill up, like 66 or so.

Tank is 80L. I have hybrid intake and catback exhaust.

I have a 2000 Xterra which is really close to your pathfinder ..(xterra was built on a pathfinder I guess because even my manual was from a pathfinder..)

Anyway that sounds about right , the thing is a pig.
I didnt find it much better on the Hiway either it sucked.
Almost burned more gas on hiway driving then in the city.
It always rev'd really high too, compared to many other suv's ive driven.

But in the city max I got was about 450km, on a 80L tank .. :(

Hah, Im just pokin fun at ya (although some people above are dumb enough to think im comparing my civic literally  :dunno: ) . That Black toyota of yours was big and pretty when i saw it , and 600Km's a tank sounds mighty decent for it too.

back on topic.

I find that even alot of import V6s are pigs. Even in my legend, i get around 450KM. Of course, the thing is huge and its heavy as shit. So being that you have an SUV, 400km seems about right..

I'm guessing that when you fill up you can only fit about 60 litres of fuel? The Pathfinders will usually hit about 15L/100km with gentle driving (better on the highway). In 4wd when it was cold, my '95 Pathfinder was using about 18L/100km.

my pathfinder has about the same gas consumption as well
but as other people mentioned on top if you are not in 4wd at all times and dont have the car warming up for crazy amount of time gas consumption might be a bit better

the nissan pathy is seems to be the worst of the midsized suv's out there, only beaten by v8 durango, notoriously terrible land rover, and the big ones, expedition's/suburban/etc.

unfortunately you vehicle sucks gas.

nothing out of the ordinary.

I get 550km out of 60L on my VQ35DE.

Pathy adds another 1000lb and 2 more wheel spinning, and from my cousin's experience on the VQ33, I'm not surprise you get 400km/tank.

last week when it was cold and shitty out i only got 295km on a full tank on my 99 pathy. But i would always warm my car for 10min and was driving in 4wd the whole time.

98 was almost 10 years ago. Be glad it's still running, that's the main thing. Gas mileage ain't gonna be what was estimated on the original sales slip.

Too bad the Expedition and the Suburban's are FULL SIZE SUV's with V8 engines... 5.7L V8 minumum. The Pathfinder is a V6 mid-size (i.e. Explorer, Trailblazer, etc), so no comparison there.

Compare within the class...

Again....how many litres to a fill though? I used to get 800 km per tank on the highway with my 1989 Chevy 1/2 ton (305 CI with 350,000 km's). On the other hand, it had a 120L tank.

I sure hope that the Armada comes with a bigger tank than an old Pathfinder.

15L / 100km is about average for a truck-based 4x4 vehicle. That is the same consumption I got with my 2000 S-10 (4.3L with 4x4), my 1993 Nissan p/u (3.0 L with 4x4) and 1995 Pathfinder (3.0 L with 4x4).
