^ from what I've heard those are the worst LCD's ever, that and BenQ. There's a reason its so cheap. You were so picky with the Viewsonic's and Samsung, yet you purchased an Acer? weird. hope it pans out for you, enjoy, once you go wide, you never go back

yup I knew about their quality, I chose it because of the reasonable price for the screen size, I can always pass it down to my daughter after 1 year or so and buy new monitor. So far I am happy with all the games (fast action, racing...) I played on it, and photoshop and DVD movies look good on it as well... I guess I am lucky because the my new LCD has no dead pixel ( alot of bad review on it about dead pixel when it brand new)...:D Only 1 bad thing is I find it way too bright, I had to turn down the brightness to 30% or my eyes will get hurt after hour or so or it could be my eyes got tired from all day looking at 2 big 20 inches CRT monitors at work for PIPING DESIGN...:D

Keep an eye on http://www.dell.ca/daysofdeals

Dell is doing their 12 days of deals. Their 24" LCD usually goes on sale for around $700 (or possibly less this time) at least once during the sale. Check it out daily.

Is Acer really that bad? I'm looking for a 19 inch screen now and was looking at some Acers ... what should I look towards? Not a fan of dell ... had some bad experiences when I bought a desktop a while back, looking for something from a place like mem express.

Also excuse my ignorance for not knowing this, but I'm currently using a older 19" CRT with my new desktop. If I was to move to something like a 24" LCD, what changes do I have to make in terms of cables in order to hook up the new LCD to my computer?

viewsonic or samsung...they make the best displays with the best contrast ratios and the best response times.

I have the 20.1" wide screen from viewsonic and its absolutely amazing ive had it for about a year now and it stays on 24/7/365 with a 30 minute timer to shut off when not in use and its still as bright as it was from day one. I think im going to upgrade to the 22" soon it just looks so nice.

is it really 1400:1?
i remember looking at that monitor at futureshop and it was next to a NEC display which wasnt that great and it looked like shit.

The only display that has the most amazing contrast ratio is the gateway monitor...its a shame their prices are high and they dont make anything bigger than the 21"

I am with FLUOR CANADA LTD all the way in the SE end of town, my work place starting to use DELL 20+ inches LCD monitor for piping designer because DELL do not supply them with CRT monitor any more....:D and staring at those LCD monitor for the whole day will get your eyes totally out of wack by the end of the day....:( I personally prefer CRT monitor for any CAD or microstation work...:D

I cant stand staring at CRT monitors.

I used to get horrible headaches before I switched my CRTs with LCDs.

Saying bad things anout Acer with no real data proof is useless.

Not too many people keep their monitors more than 5 years anyways, and most Acer (and any other) monitors will do just fine for that time.

my $0.2

yeah it really is 1400:1 and this monitor is awesome. Watching movies and what not is where you really see the contrast ratio shine. The blacks are really nice rich blacks. I love it.

Yeah the contrast ratio is amazing, for darker scenes in games like battlefield 2 or half life 2 it makes a huge difference from my old 17 inch crt :D

I picked up a Dell 2007WFP (20.1 inch Widescreen) for $329 during one of those "Days of deals"...Usually go for like 399 I think... It is a great monitor and no fast motion blur or anything (as long as you use DVI)
