Hi I want to start selling stuff online and i was wondering how can i get a merchant account....like to recieve payments via visa..mastercard etc..... I do not want to use paypal!! any help would be great thank you.....

You can get an online merchant account from pretty much any bank. You will need to have a business incorporated.

You will also need a processor, like:

(type online merchant account into Google for dozens of others)

Using PayPal is not a bad idea when you are starting out. Saves you the hassle of applying for a merchant account and a lot of time/money on integration of your own merchant account. You will also not have to deal with fraud issues on your own, which can be a considerable expense and hassle, especially if you lose your merchant account because your fraud goes too high. Paypal has a new checkout system available where a customer does not need a Paypal account to checkout, and it is quite slick.

Depending on what you are selling there are other options besides PayPal.

Since most banks have a higher rate on each sale you may want to look into a third party processor, such as ClickBank.
