Very, very embarrassing...

Gp0HyxQv97Q

Verizon doesn't know the difference between .002 cents and .002 dollars.

Before George went to Canada, he asked Verizon the rate for data and voice transfer. They told him, "Point zero zero two cents per kilobyte."

He was surprised then to receive a bill for Point zero zero two dollars per kilobyte.

Instead of getting charged $.7141, Verizon is charging him $71.41.

This is his call as he tries to explain to Verizon the difference between $.002 and $.00002.

I've had conversations like that with fido, at least with verizon it SEEMED like he wanted to help, fido reps might as well be wearing a "sorry sir, I cant help you" sandwich board.

Added: the caller sounds just like Giovanni Ribisi

i don't understand - ahahha so confusing -

i think it all started from when the first rep told him it was .002 cents per kilobyte.

It is amazing that people can actually function and live in this world with math skillz like that. It is so basic.

I mean, how do they manage their money?

G: [big sigh] Okay, I think I have to do this again. Do you recognize that there's a difference between one dollar and one cent?

A: Definitely.

G: Do you recognize there's a difference between half a dollar and half a cent?

A: Definitely

G: Then, do you therefore recognize there's a difference between .002 dollars and .002 cents

A: No.

Why do you think Safeway got those automatic change machines? The cashiers couldn't do it.

No. He said, "now we're in Canada..." meaning that, "at the time of the usage, we're in Canada"

Good thing the guy didn't add in anything about conversion rates. Otherwise, well, I don't even want to know how complicated the conversation would be!

Yeah, the guy was trying to figure out what KB were used on his trip to Canada.

Funny...sad how America can't do simple math...

I was at McDonalds (funny this reinforces some stereotypes) and I had a tab of $7.46. I gave the lady $12.46 because I just want a 5 dollar bill back, instead of the $2.54, makes it a lot easier. Well she gave me the look as if she was to disarm a bomb, freaking confused as hell...she handed me the "extra" $2.46 and gave me $2.54....*sighs*

As I said, I don't know how people function. I hate change. I try to get rid of it all the time.

99% of the people I give more than a round number can't do the calculation in their head. They need to punch it in... Even then, they look totally puzzled.:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I always give them abit more change so they can give me either a bill or a loonie/toonie in change, I just tell them that I am giving them the extra change so they can give me $1 or what ever the correct amount might be.

Hmmm:

Rate that Verizon quoted for travel in Canada:
$0.00007 a KB

Real rate for Verizon when travelling in Canada:
$0.007 a KB

Rogers rate if you live in Canada:
$0.07 a KB

Now who's getting ripped-off?

That reminds me of this seedy adult store on Kingsway in Vancouver. There's a sign that says ".25 [cents sign] peepshows"...

So does that mean 4 peepshows for a penny, or does that mean 1 peepshow for a quarter? I'm too afraid to go in and ask.

You are if you're paying Verizon $0.0007/kb because they actually quoted $0.00002/kb

that is rediculous that 3 of those freakin idiots couldnt do simple math. Even with all of the pot smoked up in Canada, we can still depict the differenct between .002 cents and .002 dollars....unbelievable...i was 10 times more angry than the guy on the phone when i listened to that, how embarrassing for the US again.

Clearly his degree of anger is contingent on the unit of measurement.

I made a similar comment but we should remind ourselves that those buffoons do not represent the US as a whole. They are just idiots who do not understand units regardless of their creed, nation, or colour.

There are people who should not be allowed to have children. If I were the US Emperor I would enact such a law.

Can't say that I find the Canadian school systems any better, I ordered a hot dog from the Orange Julius at the university.

I asked politely if she could heat it up so the cheese melts. She said oh sorry we don't have a microwave, I then told her well you could use the steamer there beside you to melt the cheese.

She then give me a dumbfounded look and turns to her manager and asks "Does steam melt cheese?"

WTF :dunno:

I've seen this all over the place, specifically fast food establishments from pizza to hamburgers.
