on thefactory motor (civic ex 4dr) i think its d15 something

hmm after an intake and cat-back.....is a header really worth it?

what are some other "affordable" mods...

the engine is the D16Y8(vtec) or D16Y7 if its without vtec..
intake and exhaust definitely makes it sound better and gives some noticeable gains, but nothing huge.

IMO.... not worth it. Save your money for a swap.

I think he's got the 92-95 Civic's which had the d15 motor. Like buh_buh said, save your money and swap, or look for a Civic Si or something.

then just get a shortram intake and a cheap muffler. If you want a stock ex motor to go fast theres not really cheap alternatives..

sell your car and buy a faster one! and you wont have to do a BS swap.

bolt-on mods are a waste of money on an engine like the d15.

i/h/e + install will cost u about as much as ghetto boost...

go turbo yo!

it's probably the best mod you can get

btw why do people want to do swap so bad? the B18 (or whatever the tag engine code is) is not that powerful. with the money involved one can buy a decent turbo kit with more HP

bolt ons won't make a difference. But you should go for it if you like spending a lot of money and seeing very little gains.

GET CAMS!!!! really man...go to mopac and pic up some good crane cams...you'll see nice gains...and fuck the short ram intake! Get a cold air or dont bother! Anyways the best thing to do is ask this on civic forums...but here's a couple other ideas: first of all buy as many of your parts as you can used! On civic sites you'll always find ideas and how-tos for ghetto mods, like making your own intake, motor mounts...crap like that...but people will ALWAYS tell you man..."You gotta pay to play!" Spend the time to read up about your car. I like these forums but IMO this isnt the place to ask really technical questions...

If you get useless ones like short ram intake then yes you are right...but if you ever plan to do any remotely big things to your car then you need the boltons to get the full power out of your other parts:)

If you have half a brain, and you "plan to do any remotely big things to your car", then you would do a swap. Bolt ons don't do jack shit on a d15. Maybe your hp will increase from 80whp-82whp.

that's why i dont drive a civic! and dont say they're better than neons...my bottom of the line 96 makes as much hp as your mighty Si with bout 20pounds of torque more...I dont know that much about civics so i guess in this case engine swap would be a good idea.

If you want a bit better sound you could get a high flow cat. It'll give you a bit more performance (not much) but it should make you car louder too.

lol neons good lol:rofl:

I have a 1996 civic dx with a d16y7. Its got a KN filter and a flowmaster exhaust kit. THe engine has 130,000 miles but pulls really strong. Its a 5 speed and it shows no signs of wear at all. IM looking into getting an MSD distrubutor cap and getting a external coil and racing plugs and wires. What other mods whould do me any good? Turbos and Superchargers are too costly. Want a cheap mod? Build your own RAM AIR, (a real one, that works) I did this on my Caravan, it works! still slow, but it works!:nut:

best mod you can do for d-series civics-a header.
if you look at the stock one it is unbelievably restrictive.
there is a dc for your car for sale on the forums somewhere.
otherwise, leave it alone. you'll be dumping money into something that will get you nowhere. sure it'll be "faster" than stock, but not as fast as half of the other cars on the road.

if you are going to keep the d15 and want big power gains i suggest u turbocharge the car . the intake , exhaust and headers will produce bigger numbers with the turbo available.

some affordable mods .. are u into looks or performance? looks come pretty easy for a civic but if ur lookin for performance then get a full cat back system with the basic bolt ons .... headers , in take , etc

would u rather spend the money a n/a engine for a civic or put in a turbo and then havin to buy parts so that the engine can handle it?
money+time = more money
