It's not just ebay, even the autotrader in the States is like that. We're living in a city with super high inflated car prices.

Keep in mind that for 350Z's, the states got a base model that was even more base than the lowest Canadian model.

I imported a car from the USA before, but I did not see prices like this when I was shipping around before...

interesting.... did he actually go down and see the car? or did he employ an escrow service to inspect the car and send it up?

If a car is new enough and has an honorable warranty and clean title, you can buy it unseen and don't have to worry too much. Ebay sellers usually have to maintain a good reputation so they don't typically sell junk.

Gas will cost you quite a bit more then that.... plus keep in mind the weather once you get back up northern states and then into canada. I drive mine in the winter but rarly on highways(dont like gravel or stones)

As for the car, its cheep enough, save around 10k its base level with a few tiny upgrades, rims spoiler. Also has a fair amout of miles on it 42000 mile thats like 68000 kms. But its in texus drove fulltime all year round. If you get it, you'll love it, lots of fun to drive.

that same seller has a 2004 s2000 for a buy it now of 21000cad!!

heheh bored

Tank size roughly 76L (i believe
car gets highway average say 10.22l/100km

(okay that seems high, well say 650km to a tank?)

trip is about 3600kms.
You will need to fill up 5 1/2 times

Now going buy say 85c/lt for premium in the us, its about 65$cdn to fill. thats about 360$ for gas for the trip.

I searched, and thats what i Got for tank size and took an average high km for mileage. So a safe bet is about 400$ for gas. This of course depends on the price / gallon it is in the us, i just took a big guess.

Yes all cdn funds...

mmmmmk.... what would I need to do to be able to sell it or drive it here in calgary if I were to buy it and drive it up here? What about going from the States into Canada. could i go through? and how much would all this cost, after I buy the car and bring it up here. Gas and everything else is chump change..

edit: what about duty costs?

no he just trusted the guy, it was a dealership. they sent it over and my dad got his friend to do the mechanical check, out of province and all that and it turned out exceptional. After that the guy even checked the paint with halogen florecent lights to make sure it wasnt repainted(especially poorly) and he doubled checked everything and it turned out to be spotless!

Look at my first post, i imported one from the states already, so my information is pretty correct..

Since the car is not made in the U.S or Canada you will be playing 6.1% at the boarder and 6.0% tax at the boarder aswell

The car in total, after all said and done, should be around 25,000CAD

If the car was produced in the USA you save 6.1% on duty..

It's a hell of a deal IMO..

I won't be buying another car around here that's for sure.. i'm in the market for a new all year car and will definitely get something from the states this time.. Just have to be careful and check which makes and models are available for import.. I was looking at a Audi A6 and found out that pretty much all Audi's can't be imported.. Very interesting. But still, what i'm looking for, even with the exchange, gst and duty, gas, plane ticket etc.. i'm expecting to save at least 10 grand over buying it here. Remember you're really only paying for duty if the car is from outside north american cause you're paying GST here anyway on a car. With the exchange rate the way it is i'm definitely going to take advantage of that as well as it isn't going to last forever..

Booyah to Ebay & Autotrader.. oh and if anyone needs some carfax reports ran, let me know I have an unlimited account until jan 7th..

Hmm, this might almost be worth driving my early-90's Blazer clunker for another year to save up the cash to buy something nice from the USA (and not another SUV). I don't think it's too easy to finance a vehicle bought in the US, is it?

Yah all you need is a line of credit so you might not get really good financing on it so gotta be careful with that.. But in alberta it's hard to get good rates anyway so it's really not that big a deal.

Kobe

I don't think you can finance the vechicle in the states, as there is to be no loans are leins on it when you are bringing it over the boarder...

I'd tack on another $1000 for food and unforseen costs. I bet you will find after all is said and done you will be closer to $26,000 or more. Canyon Creek Toyota has a 2003 track pack with 39,000km on it for 29,900 and its been there for a long time im sure you could get it for 28000 taxes in. Lower milage and an Alberta car. Plus you get brembos and forged wheels and a limited slip.

So in the end you end up really saving maybe $1000-2000. I was looking for the longest time and in the end it just wasnt worth the hassle for the money saved. The real savings are when you're looking at 911s, Ferrari's high end Audis etc. There are serious savings to be had there. For $20,000 cars, for me, it wasnt worth it.

well I did it.. couldn't handle paying Canadian prices for cars and bought something from the states.. will let everyone know about my experience when it's done but so far everything has went really smooth..

Here are the details of what i'm getting.. pretty damn stoked about it!!!

2004 Mercedes C240 4matic
White on grey
41000 miles still under warranty
1 previous owner..
Approx 2000CDN for shipping and all fees associated right to Calgary
Finalized deal today so still not sure when it will actually arrive but you need to sit down for the price..

17,500US

So with all said and done.. Taxes fees, exchange etc.. I'm looking at come in at about 25000.00CDN for everything on a car which is definitely worth over 40,000CDN considering a 03 4Matic goes for 38,000 with similar mileage..

Boooooyah!

thanks guys.. I got it off Ebay from a dealer in NJ.. The dealer has a lot of very nice high end autos for sale and if anyone else is interested based on my experience I'll be sure to forward on the dealers name.

He's sending out the title and paperwork for me to sign because of the holidays I probably won't get that done till Wed. Wed. is also when Mercedes Canada opens again so I need to get a recall clearance letter and import allowance letter from them.

I have not read that thread but I will now.. I've done a lot of research on how to import so I feel pretty confident I have everything I need but always good to hear about someone else's experiences.

I plan on leaving this car 1000% mod free! Cause if I do I might as well get a divorce. :)

Just make sure u have

-US Title
- Bill of sale
- The boarder sheet

all filled out and faxed 2 the boarder, they have 2 be fully completed before you fax them..

The recall letter is not needed till the inspections in Canada. What is the import allowance letter? i never got one of those...

What are the logistics as far as insurance/registration in the US when you're bringing it to Canada? Do you have to get a short-term policy in the US from a US company and register it where you buy it?

UPDATE!!! Please read!!!

OK, so Mercedes Benz Canada is fux0red in the head.. They totally lied to me about the car being able to be imported. The first E-mail I got from them stated that C-Class Mercedes are fine and can be imported without any problems. The second E-mail I got from them when requesting the clearance letter said something totally different. They will not allow anyone but a Mercedes Dealership do the work to meet Canadian Specs AND on top of that won't tell you what you need until to pay them $250.00. If you have anyone but MB Canada do the work then you void the warranty and they will not pass the car for Canadian Specs. So you want MB Dealership to do the work, well then it will take up to 45 Days to hear back from MB Canada on what needs to be done. THEN it's 500.00 for them to inspect after the work has been done which can range anywhere from 2000.00 - 6000.00 depending on the model.

For some reason. MB is one of the only manufacturers like this. Others on the RIV web site state clearly that a car is admissible or not. So with that being said, if you are considering doing this, I would stick to cars which are clearly marked admissible. Luckily the guy that I bought the car from was very understanding and will either cancel the order outright or try and find me something that is admissible. Great dealership btw for anyone looking.. Paul Miller BMW in Wayne, NJ

So here is my situation now.. I need a CAR! :) What I have narrowed it down to is the following.... Anyone have experience with these brands/models please let me know.. I'm going to try and go in to test drive a couple today..

Acura TSX
BMW 3 Series
Nissan Altima?
Lexus something?
Anything American worth looking at?? I hate Chevy's :)

OH, one more update.. I looked at Audi and most Audi's can not be imported.

Looking for suggestions really as you can see the kinda range i'm looking for..
